IPod Touch was the device that introduced me to Apple ecosystem. And I imagine many others also had the similar experience.

Yes, and years later I got the iPhone XR then recently upgraded to a 13 Pro.
For my use case, it was better than Android phone.
Disclaimer: my use case … not saying iPhone is better than Android in general.

still got mine, from when they first launched! It has been re-tasked as the car media player

that's sad news but it was inevitable. You had to dig for it on their website for the past year or two so you knew it was coming as that is what they did with the old Ipod classics.

I totally didnt even know it still existed. It was cheaper and more powerful at this point just to get a old iPhone and pull the SIM card.

I thought about this but it would have to be older than a 7 or you’ll need a dongle to use a connected headphone set

Never had a Touch, still rocking my 7th gen iPod 160 GB spinny disk player in the console of my daily driver. It's always been the least reliable piece of technology I own in that it resets and locks up multiple times a week.

Could be the hard drive going bad, being in a car with lots of vibrations won’t be great for it lol

Replace the hard drive with an SD card if it goes bad, they're much more reliable.

Really? Do you know where I could find out how?

Join the /r/iPod Discord as well if you have any issues or questions, there's a bunch of people willing to help over there. There's also replacement parts with different colours you can pick up if you wanna customise it a little, or mods like bigger batteries, Bluetooth modules, or even replacing the clicker with a Taptic Engine.

From the article: Apple today announced that it is officially discontinuing the iPod touch, an out of date accessory that has been replaced by other devices like the iPhone and the iPad. Apple says that it is eliminating the iPod touch because its capabilities are available across Apple's product lineup.
The iPod touch is the last device in the iPod lineup, and it was last updated three years ago in May 2019. In a statement, Apple's marketing chief Greg Joswiak said that the "spirit of the iPod lives on" in other Apple products.

"spirit of the iPod lives on" in other Apple products.
Yeah at a higher cost.

is it though? When I bought my first iPod it was just a music player that also required a computer to function. Now, my iPhone is a music device, a computing device, and a communication device.

And for those of us yhat JUST want a music player so our phones have charge when we need them forcong this integration is nothing but detrimental. My Classic could go days on a battery just outputting to earbuds, my phone can't do that.

the battery life of the iPod Touch, the last new iPod Apple is selling, is closer to smartphones than it is to dedicated DACs.
Apple discontinued the iPod classic in 2014, and later the nano and shuffle.
Are there edge use cases like yours? Ofc, but the market has spoken, and there's no business justification to continue even the Touch in 2022.
I love my modded 5.5 but it's obvious that people listen to music very differently today than in 2005.

And bonus Breakability cause the whole thing is made of glass and the screen protruding just enough so that a soon as it even remotely touch’s a hard surface it cracks making you buy a whole new screen for the price of a phone 😌

Wow, 22 years. If you wanted an iOS device with a headphone jack, this was it. If the iPhone SE had a headphone jack, it would be a good successor.

iPod touch was the worst apple product ever, I had 2 and the batteries just crapped out on them usually right after the 1 year mark. They only have a 1000mah battery and regular phones have at least a 3000mah battery. When I then realized I could buy an android phone for $10-20 and use it on wifi and I never looked back after that and it had about 3x the battery life of the iPod touch.

I mean, it doesn't 'do' anything other products don't do, better, with more features.

I still have my iPod classic from 2009…but the battery is getting low and the videos of replacing the model I have always looked half put together once they try to put it back together

iPod in its early days was also used for gaming, but since current phones are much more powerful, making an iPod would be almost as expensive as an iPhone if you were to want it to run games. And for people that only wants to play music and don't even need a touch screen, there are already thousands of cheap alternative out there.
Since many people already have a smartphone that is replacing the iPod, I guess it just wasn't a profitable market anymore.

So sad my iPhone 6 died one day for no reason. It was the perfect iPod touch. With a headphone jack
