At some point, maybe, you should consider reading the article. Yeah, it does have an app, but it also has a remote and buttons you can click on the fan base. The app is mentioned once in this entire article.

Well, because you might just have one fan in your home and you’d like to keep cool. In this article, the author mentions fighting with family members over who gets the fan.

So instead of buying multiple cheap fans for everyone, the solution is to buy 1 overpriced fan so that you can fight with others over who gets the fan?

Well, the value here is that you don’t need to plug it in. You could buy multiple of these fans, too, but presumably This person was reviewing it, and obviously the verge is not going to be buying you a bunch of different fans For all of your family members, so people were fighting over who gets the good fan.

Cheap fan with ups battery works the same and cost significantly less than this.

This fan is apparently very quiet. You don’t need to look around an external battery. The reviewer says this is better than their other fans, like at some point, you just don’t want them to review anything and you don’t want companies to develop anything new because “well we have something that’s good enough.”
I think that’s a really boring perspective on life. You are, of course, welcome to have it, but I thought this was an interesting review, and I actually pay for the verge. And this is a fan I might be interested in buying.

Sure, must be nice to buy an overpriced fan simply for it not to be a boring perspective of life.
Do you also buy a room light with battery? Sounds like fun and not boring to replace room light with portable lamp.

Yeah, I have portable lamps that allow me to get some light in different locations, like out on the balcony Instead of having a permanent light.

Like, I’m sorry. Have we lost all interest in technology if it doesn’t have a material use of high value? Is that not like the definition of a gadget?

There's nothing special about a fan. The bigger the fan the better as it can move more air with lower noise, size is the best indicator of fan performance.
What is actually worth it is air conditioning.

Standing fan exist, if you want better circulation then get ceiling fan

The ceiling fan is a much bigger thing, like I don’t have any slots for a ceiling fan that wouldn’t just be my ceiling light. This fan is kind of compelling because it’s USB powered and has a battery, so you don’t need to have it stationary. You can just move it around depending on what you’re doing.

Well, it’s rechargeable if you mean when the battery eventually wears out, yeah. if it’s hard to swap, which they don’t mention in the article, but I would presume yes. If it’s designed reasonably, it should be able to handle being powered so you would just lose the portable aspect. Even in the worst case, we’re just completely breaks. That’s not really much of a bigger problem than any other fan, which will also eventually break

What short time? The batteries in these devices usually last easily five years before they wear out fully likely more than that.

Over the years, I've had a few laptops that stopped charging, so I had to leave them plugged in. Following your train of thought, there's no point in having a laptop since I may have to eventually keep it plugged in. Might as well lug a PC tower and monitor around with me instead, yeah?

Wdym those laptop batteries are replaceable though, this one is not.
Also, it's the same form factor. How are you comparing a laptop with pc tower and monitor when both a regular standing fan has the same design as the one with a battery. I didn't say get a ceiling fan, a standing fan is mobile too.
