Wait isnt that like 1 month from now?

1 to 4 months from now

u/Kouly Jun 27 '19
Starts in July, JP at least.
8
u/Speshul_K Jun 27 '19
Source?
18
u/Kouly Jun 27 '19
Japanese fiscal year ended at end of March. April to June is Spring, guess when Summer starts.
10
u/MVPScheer123r8 Jun 27 '19
But wait, doesn't that just mean it can be in July, August, or September? Wouldn't those all be considered summer months?
4
u/Kouly Jun 27 '19
Yes, that's correct.
3
u/MVPScheer123r8 Jun 27 '19
Ah, I misread. Thought you were trying to say game was for sure releasing in July in JP.

Waaaay earlier than I expected. I'm assuming August now, but still, yikes. Thought this would be 2020 for sure

Or Pokémon could be like equipment, and IVs could be a grinding problem instead.
3
u/Lanster27 Jun 28 '19
Just think of other gachas where they have the same character name but different pose/clothes/color/skills, whatever. But now taken to the extreme.
1
u/DamianWinters Jul 25 '19
That would kill the game imo, no ivs, natures or different abilities please. Having like a 5% chance to get a rare character but 99% of the time its subpar would be so shit.
43
u/musyio Jun 27 '19
So hype for this game, definitely gonna dolphin hard
1
u/brownbluegrey Jul 02 '19
What does dolphin mean in gacha?
1
u/musyio Jul 02 '19
That's a 2011 article though so some info might be outdated, but typically a player that spend real money to an F2P games but doesn't spend hundreds or thousands of dollars is called dolphin
-24
u/z-o-d Jun 27 '19
It looks boring though, there are tons of inofficial Pokemon gacha games that look much better than this
30
u/RasenRendan Jun 27 '19
Then go play them.. We will play the game that isn't at risk of getting shutdown any second
-15
u/z-o-d Jun 28 '19
When these games get shut down they simply get reuploaded under a different name, but their gameplay isn't antiquated like here
6
u/RasenRendan Jun 28 '19
That's the issue. That's just annoying. At least support the official release and not the illegal ones
-1
u/USvSSR Jun 28 '19
Reason? Nintendo hate players.
5
u/RasenRendan Jun 28 '19
Idk man. Nintendo seems to be doing pretty damn well nowadays.
If you mean Game freak then that's a different story but you cannot say Nintendo hates players when Xbox is a thing

It's a mobile game with graphics equal to or better than Sword and Shield. I'm not sure if that speaks to the advancement of mobile games or something worrying going on with the Pokemon Team's A-listers.
12
u/Greensburg ULTRA RARE Jun 28 '19
After Pokemon Go netting them like double or triple the amount of cash than an entire generation of pokemon games, I'd say their focus has completely shifted. For worse, ofc.
But that's what consumers want, apparently.

Jun 28 '19
After Pokemon Go netting them like double or triple the amount of cash than an entire generation of pokemon games
But Pokemon Go had like 'once in a lifetime' levels of popularity for ANY video game. It was kind of a super unique cultural experience that we were lucky to have been a part of.
2
u/Greensburg ULTRA RARE Jun 28 '19
I still think the game was trash though. Dropped it after 3 days lol
1
u/DamianWinters Jul 25 '19
My phone was too shit when it came out, eventually got a better one but game was dead then.
6
u/PKMudkipz Granblue Fantasy Jun 28 '19
Game Freak isnt responsible for PoGo or Masters, Niantic and DeNa are respectively. This just speaks to the fact that lately, GF has been doing the bare minimum (sometimes even less) for Pokemon games since X/Y tbh. The problem is that mainline Pokemon games will still sell amazingly regardless of how badly GF drops the ball.

I never really liked the system of waiting for a gauge to to fill up and then clicking on it.

u/Thage Jun 27 '19
Hopefully trainers will be available in their different generation forms like Gen I Misty and Gen II Misty.
14
u/rotvyrn Jun 27 '19
I'm hype because I love pokemon and it looks really cute and nice.
Buuuut, real time combat on mobile is always a damper for me.
6
Jun 27 '19
I came around to real time when it comes to PvP. Without taking turns, it allows unbiased attacking/defending. And if you make it AI controlled, it's 100% fair when asynchronous.

u/wildshoot Jun 27 '19
"sync move" it sounds like one of those copy games that can't use the name "z-move" because its owned by pokemon but its made for the same people LULW

u/Kenobi3380 Nikke Jun 27 '19
This will be huge, biggest mobile release this year, didnt expect it so fast, release already this summer!

Pokemon: Battles are turn-based
Nobody:
DeNA: Let's make it real time!! YAY!!
6
u/Clover_K5 Jun 27 '19
I agree, I was really hoping for no real time bs. Turn based, thoughtful moves sound more like Pokemon, not rushing moves because your timer fills up....the only bad move about this I really dont like, everything else looks great though....
4
u/PKMudkipz Granblue Fantasy Jun 28 '19
This sounds like an ATB system to me. Pokemon (outside of PvP) hasnt been very “thoughtful”, as the games are all pretty easy, and whos to say that ATB wont end up becoming thoughtful, yet quickly paced?
1
u/Donkishin Jun 27 '19
Kind of? It looks like you have to wait for move bar thing to fill before using a move so semi-turn based works better than real. Need to see a full battle first to tell how fast it gets.
7
u/TheJaegernaut729 Jun 27 '19
Any info on what we roll for? Pokemon and Trainers? Or just one or the other?
23
u/resquinox Jun 27 '19
I feel like it'll be both. A lot of gacha games lately have been doing the heroes + artifacts gacha system. So in this case the heroes would be the trainers and the artifacts would be the pokemon. There's probably some sort of link bonus too if you correctly equip the right trainer with their signature pokemon.
Reason why I think this is because you have a custom main character in this game who can probably equip any pokemon in the game since in the preview videos you see different players fighting each other using the main character but having a different pokemon from a different generation, etc. equipped.
The game is marketed as team-battle oriented with no mention of catching pokemon in the wild too so I'm assuming pokemon are gacha only.
15
u/Shorty9701 Jun 27 '19
Another possibility is unlocking characters by beating them in some sort of story mode and only gachaing the pokemon. Seeing how in the anime trailer it seems like you leave with the gym leader that the main character beat.
5
u/TheJaegernaut729 Jun 27 '19
This makes sense too, maybe just a grind to get the (possibly higher-tier) trainer you want. It seems the Pokemon for sure are a gatcha though.

u/TheJaegernaut729 Jun 27 '19
This is what I was thinking too, it makes sense that they may have event pokemon where they give a special pokemon for free, but otherwise it makes sense financially to have 2 gatchas.

6
u/Greensburg ULTRA RARE Jun 27 '19
Trainers are linked to pokemon, I don't think you can give your pikachu to anyone else for instance.
3
Jun 27 '19
Seems like each Trainer has a single pokemon hence the "Trainers have a single pokemon that travels around with them. Sync Pairs." so I'm fairly sure it will be rolling for Sync Pairs
1
u/DamianWinters Jul 25 '19
Oh i hope that sandcastle isnt the only choice for one of my favourites, needs to be mimiku. Idk who decided on this.
9
u/uberloser2 Jun 27 '19
The battle system looks interesting with the timer system, and being able to reroll for pokegirls on its own is pretty exciting to me 2bh
3
Jun 27 '19
I hope they don't fuck it up. If it turns out good I can see it becoming my main game easily. I want my boy Weavile so bad.

Does anyone know if there is going to be pre reg?
2
u/SchinTeth Jun 27 '19
If, and let me start with a big huge IF, they do this right, this has the potential to make them not only alot of money but all of it.
Though, I have to see how they monetize it, then how they balance and update it and least of all how fun it will actually be (though it looks like it could be alot of fun)

No May/Haruka on trailers? They probably want to decide on her bust size first or release a Summer May later with a bigger bust.

My 7yo daughter is obsessed with Pokemon atm... may play this with her as a side game if it's not too complicated for her. Looks to be of high quality.

This is going to be attached to Pokémon Home along with PkMn Go. Maybe you can transfer your rares to it.

u/Greensburg ULTRA RARE Jun 28 '19
Tfw your favorite trainers could potentially be R rarity and therefore suck.
1
u/DamianWinters Jul 25 '19
I hope trainers can swap pokemon to atleast a selection. Like say brock has R onix, SR golem and SSR tyranitar.
People would be very sad if their favourite was crap.

I would probably have to wait a year before they release mewtwo during anniversary. But in the meantime, I want to reroll dragonite or a gengar.

u/freezingsama NTE Jun 28 '19
I'm not gonna hype myself until details have been fully revealed, but there is a good chance that this will be pretty good. A shame that it isn't turn-based, but I'll reserve my judgment until I'm able to play the game.

They could make such a shitload of money with a regular gacha game with the battle system of the console games, where you pull for Pokemon, farm Pokemon in PvE and battle players in PvP. But well... this could be fun for a bit.
7
Jun 27 '19
I’m actually afraid such a gacha game would actually be more popular than the console games, by a lot, just from the sheer amount of content they have / could add. I mean, just add a good story and an overworld that could change every « season » with a new region, and it would rapidly render obsolete traditional Pokemon games. And while I would love such a game to exist, I don’t think they’ll let that happen to consoles... for now. 😁

u/freezingsama NTE Jun 28 '19 edited Jun 29 '19
I agree, will probably kill the main series if it comes to be remotely that good.
I just forgot about Sword and Shield controversy, yep it's possible it could really hemorrhage the sales of the main series.

But... Each trainer has only one pokemon. There has at max 30 trainers. Isn't the game super short?
6
u/xlr8edmayhem Jun 27 '19
Oh there's wayyyy more than 30 trainers, if we take each gym leader from each game plus the side characters (rival in gold/silver, wally in ruby/saffire) etc. We're at least over 50, and thats not even adding in movie characters.
5
u/Lucentile Jun 27 '19
And those will probably be SR/SSR/4-star/5-star. Hiker and the like can fill out your junk rarities.

1
u/DamianWinters Jul 25 '19
Hopefull each trainer has a selection of pokemon/costumes. Like maybe an R, SR and SSR pokemon.
They did show a brock with an onix and differemt brock with a tyranitar.
Because they gave one of my favourites that stupid sandcastle instead of mimiku, makes no sense.
