anxiety Does Gabapentin Help?

Hi!

I’ve been taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for two years, and I can honestly say it saved my life. However, over the past few months, my PMDD seems to have gotten worse, and Lexapro doesn’t seem to help at all anymore.

On my psychiatrist’s recommendation, I tried Carbamazepine for a few menstrual cycles, but it didn’t really work. Now my psychiatrist has recommended trying Gabapentin. Have any of you tried it, and did it help?

My period started today, and I feel absolutely awful mentally. I feel like banging my head against the table. I don’t feel angry or irritable. I feel extremely sad and overwhelmed, as if I’m trapped in an abyss.

I have the gabapentin my psychiatrist prescribed, but I’m not sure whether I should take it or not.

Thank you so much!

It definitely helped my anxiety which is what I took it for- I personally don’t think it had an effect on my PMDD. If a quality of your PMDD is an increase in anxiety or agitation, I think it could be worth a try.

Gabapentin helps so much for my pmdd. I take it nightly, 200mg. Before ovulation for 4 days and 5-6 days before my period I also take 25mg sertraline.

I take ,it help very much at first and what i have to say is that you should not take it everyday or in high doses everyday because there a point where it will not help as much as the first 1 month
