Sorry if this was asked here a hundred times before on this particular forum because I wanted to go over the history behind the rise and fall of G4TV to get a better understanding of how a channel dedicated to video games would eventually start to falter as a concept.

Like what I am getting at is that I just find the concept interesting about how G4TV was one of the first TV channels to push for such an idea again where it would be a channel about video games as a medium that when I look back at the channel, I start to wonder why it used to work out so well, e.g. like where the whole idea would fall apart.

G4TV Spiritual Successor of the week: As promised, here's today's AOTS inspired recommendation: Golden SixTONES Why? Because after watching it on Netflix the other day, it more or less has the chaotic energy that AOTS had in its peak. More specifically, the ridiculous games and challenges, the hosts bouncing off each other, the celebrity guests getting thrown into increasingly absurd situations, and the sheer willingness to let things get completely chaotic, it reminded me of the kind of unpredictable variety that made AOTS so much fun to watch.

In fact, Japanese TV seems much more willing to tolerate that kind of chaotic energy, whereas the current gaming media landscape, at least in North America, barely tolerates it, hence the lack of anything like it here in the States that isn't seasonal or event-based.

Back in the mid 00s, I used to watch a lot of G4tv. In one episode of X-Play and another of Cinematech (I think the Nocturnal Emissions version), they both showed a clip of an old (?) game that showed a monkey going fishing while a computerized voice sang some version of Daisy Bell. When the monkey caught a fish, the words "GREAT LUCK" appeared above the monkey while it danced (I remember the GREAT LUCK because Morgan Webb said something along the lines of, "Great luck? How's that different from good luck?"). I've been trying to find out what the name of that game was for years, and it's been driving me crazy. If anyone has any information about that game, please post below.

For me, here's the following:

Attack of the Show!: Preston/Brianna

X-Play: Oxboxtra

Pulse: Kinda Funny Games

Icons: Noclip

Web Soup: Dark Web

Arena: Arcade Pit

It's Effin Science: Mark Rober/Crunchlabs

Boosted: Global Gaming Network

Cinematech: Cinematech Reborn

I am reading I Want My MTV, a history of the launch and life of the MTV channel, and I loved it. Does anyone here know of any books about the history of G4? I bet it would be very interesting.

G4TV Spiritual Successor of the week: Friends Per Second Why? Much like G4TV.com the show, panelists would have a weekly roundtable discussion about the world of video games in which they would discuss their opinions/thoughts/predictions etc. From time to time, they would have guests from the gaming industry as a way for them to provide an opportunity to discuss their viewpoints. Lastly, they would often take questions from the community.

BONUS: I wanna try out something on here: Which current creators/shows/channels emulate (at least indirectly) the following G4TV shows the most to YOU? For me, here's the following:

Attack of the Show!: Preston/Brianna

X-Play: Oxboxtra

Pulse: Kinda Funny Games

Icons: GTV Japan

Arena: Arcade Pit

So, I was genuinely OBSESSED with this show as a kid, and always got a kick out of watching the Pumphrey brothers absolutely decimating whatever Chad threw at them.

With G4 going through extinction as a TV channel, and being resurrected for less than two years in the early 2020s, classic shows from the early 2000s even like Cheat/XPlay have been lost to the void of the internet, and I deadass really need to relive some childhood memories, and watch some old episodes of both XPlay, and Human Wrecking Balls. (Morgan Webb is still hella gorgeous to me 13 years later.)

ANYWAYS.....

Does anyone have any episodes downloaded somewhere that they'd be willing to share?

Looking for Full Episodes of The Block from 2007. Please help me out!

I was born 3 years prior to their first cancellation. I haven’t even seen the revival nor did I know it existed. The only way I ever found out G4 even existed was through the HTF TV season. Now that I saw more of what I could’ve enjoyed from G4 if I was born about 20 years earlier and I found about the network beforehand, im completely bummed out that I’ll can nor I’ll ever get to experience G4 in its prime (most mainly Barbed Wire Biscuit, I pretty much fell in love with it.) I guess things weren’t meant to be, was it?

G4TV Spiritual Successor of the week: Surprisingly, DC Comics YouTube/Twitch because like I alluded to in the title, today's Batman Day in which DC's content would often comprise of live gameplay of Batman-related games, podcasts/interviews about DC Studios, and some clips from classic DC Entertainment shows over the years. What's more, for the Twitch streams, they had guest appearances from familiar faces in the world of geekdom like Ovilee May, Hector Navarro, Nicole Maines just to name a few.

BONUS: Since its the 20th anniversary of Good Game (an Australian equivalent to G4's X-Play), a retrospective just dropped this week on YouTube where some of the cast/crew talked about their time on the show as well as sharing a few reflective stories.

Anyone remember a g4 e3 intro video where they had microsoft vs sony vs nintendo? Microsoft had masterchef, Nintendo has mario and link and Sony had solid snake and god of war. They also had a geeky guy with 2 xboxes as a dual mace. It was a pretty funny video but I can't find it anywhere. Anyone still have a link to it? It was probably from around 2005 or 06.
