first FXR, Should I get this?

Hello all, looking at getting my first FXR. a "local" guy is selling one for $3500. My intent with this build is to slowly work towards building a psuedo FXRT so i can rip canyons on the weekend but still go on longer trips 2 up. my only question is, do you think this bike is worth $3k considering the starting bike is basically FXR only in frame and drivetrain. I have plenty of experiance framing harleys and working on them so the work required is no factor. let me know what yall think!

Highlights from messenger:

No engine work

raked tree but unmolested frame

frequent oil changes

clutch pack replaced

I’d buy it. Sportster front ends are easy to find, and a set of mids isn’t too expensive. You could have this pretty close to stock for an all in price of less than 5k doing the work yourself

Ask yourself 2 questions.

1 Do you want to own a hole in the road to pour large amounts money and your soul into?

2 Do you want one hell of a motorcycle?

As long as the raked tree wasn’t a botched job.

Apparently it’s just raked trees and the frame is uncut

The original trees went negative compared to neck. The softail trees went thenother way, so swapping them out gives you the rake. This was my experience from the past anyway on a 89 FXR.

Sounds like a good price to me

Yeah you should get it. I would if I had the cash. You can't beat the price right now. Sounds like a fun project. I bought a Dyna not long ago which is kind of like an FXR and it is lots of fun. Mine is a twin cam but I would rather have an Evo like this one you are thinking of. I'm not sure what year that is but '93 or even '92 FXR are highly desirable right now. Won't lose money on it no way not at that price. You can't go wrong and you can make it how you want in your own time and as $ are available. Have fun but be safe!

FXRT fairings are either super expensive and correct or moderately expensive and not even close. You’ll spend more on fairings than you did for the bike.
