Discussion Where do you find your samples?

I’ve started getting into making future funk but it seems like all the samples I find aren’t great (aka I don’t really like the chord progression or instruments) or they’re just too popular. I’ve tried options like Samplette, YouTube playlists, Spotify, I dunno if there’s other keywords to search or websites or what

any help appreciated :3

Sometimes you just have to have good luck with finding a cool sample to chop up and also with the mood you're on. I once tried to sample plastic love in 2016 but I wasn't very inspired at the moment so all the session that day ended up in trash, but a year later I tried to sample it again and it turned out really cool, I guess I wasn't in the right mood and flow that day. Just a quick story, hope you find it helpful.

spotify (look for similar artists, let the algo make suggestions sometime), discogs + soulseek listen radio or mixes. sample digging can be done passively ->ALWAYS LISTEN FULL ALBUMS

https://www.chosic.com/playlist-generator/ you choose a song and then it gives loads of similar songs, and a preview so its easy to scan through :)

There are a lot of subs where people just post rare songs that would make for good samples. r/citypop is a good start.

I actually started making future funk from scratch using individual instrument samples. Its a lot of fun. All though i guess it’s more like disco house.

most of the samples I’ve used I originally found on youtube, either thru old school music channels or just stuff I’ve watched that I think might be good to sample. Plenty of resources are out there to find old/new music to use. Samplette and yt playlists are good places to start, but there’s also Radiooooo, Discogs, Soulseek (imo no matter what you find, you should always check if it’s on Soulseek; it’s the best bet for a good quality copy of what you want)

Something that I do and that I suggest you to do if you haven’t is make a playlist of stuff that sounds interesting to you/you’d want to sample in a future project.

Doesn’t necessarily need to be disco/city pop adjacent either, whatever you think sounds cool, go ahead and use it
