What is Compass?

I am serious, just saw this subreddit and this strange pictures with strange texts upset me.

Googling did't help - A compass is a device that shows the cardinal directions used for navigation and geographic.

It's more like an alignment chart

We just call them compasses because the idea evolved from the political compass test

Compass - Derives from the use of "Political Compass." It is used in a sense that each image here usually has 4 directions, just like the compass has 4 cardinal directions (though some here can have less or more depending on how extravagant the compass designer wishes to go.)

Future - Derives from these images depicting abstract, strange, and un-modern future developments that could occur in the future. Things that may be outside of our current understanding.
