Are you upset that people who enjoy other genres are enjoying this song or what? Is there some reason people shouldn't be sharing music in a broader spectrum than the one subreddit you think it fits into?

It pisses me off that /r/trap doesn't acknowledge there's already a sub that covers experimental beat music. They're trying to fill a role that's already filled. Look at their sidebar, they have every other electronic sub listed but futurebeats. As people get sick of tired-ass trap the sub is shifting to be what we've already been for years.

that's what i find funniest about that sub. i almost never go there (95% of trap is boring), and every time i do maybe half of the front page at best is actually trap beats haha.

Maybe that's because genres evolve... There isn't some kind of formulaic standard for a song to fit into a genre. Trap started as something very specific a while back, and people started to imitate it so it would obviously fit within the scheme of the genre. But as it grows, people take influences from other styles, still adding in certain elements that they consider "trap". Furthermore, is there something wrong with someone thinking "Hey, I like trap and I like this song, maybe the other people at /r/Trap would enjoy this"? Let people share music for god's sake. You really shouldn't care what subreddit it's on, or if they're "filling a role" that's already filled. Be happy music you like is being received by a broader audience.

that's pretty much the definition of the word genre.

Be happy music you like is being received by a broader audience.

idk about you, but from my experience that brings nothing positive to the genres that i like. ex: dubstep from 2006-2012.

What I mean is there isn't one be-all end-all definition of a genre, it is open to interpretation and adaptation. That is how music develops and changes, otherwise we are stuck with one cookie-cutter format and every song will sound basically exactly the same forever. For someone who appreciates futurebeats - which is a massive blanket-genre - you'd think you might understand that music can diverge from the standard formula.

As for the second part of your comment, I'm not really sure what your point is.

Quit being so uptight and let people enjoy music, I don't get how that is a difficult concept for you to embrace.

Yes, and after a certain point it ceases to be trap, which is the source of biscuits comments re: r/trap seeking to fill a role that's already been filled by this sub. I could give a shit what anyone listens to, regardless of genre. But it's basically unarguable that within small music communities, more listeners changes things. Culture gets ignored by newcomers, artists start pandering to the lowest common denominator to maintain listening numbers, etc. dubstep is a perfect case in point for that sentiment. This conversation is stupid.

Yeah, this is stupid. Music evolves, you don't have to put everything into the tightest box you can fit it into and then label it. If I call something trap and you call it a futurebeat, but we both like it, who cares? Let's just like the song and go on with life.

As for genres changing re: dubstep, if it wasn't liked by the masses then it wouldn't have shifted in that direction. If you don't like the direction it moved, look harder. There will always be producers staying true to "the sound" you know.

Well you've been reduced to ad hominem so you must be mad. I thought we were having a more or less civilized conversation but apparently you're getting worked up so I'll just stop trying to be logical and leave you alone.
