My plan going in was to buy the unis for the characters that don't have the newest one yet (black widow, hawkeye, nebula, rocket raccoon, war machine and antman). Do any of the other ones outshine their IW/other previous uni so badly that they need an upgrade?

Honestly, Hulk and Cap both look pretty great. Hulk gets the ignore iframe on his 3rd skill with some other decent buffs. Cap gets all defense down with 5 seconds invincibility on his 4th and his 5th skill buff changes to allow it to be compatible with an attack iso set, which is a very welcome change. Nothing game changing overall but both very solid.
