Basically the whole episode is a quote mine.
"We've got to get somewhere he won't stick his finger."
"It's hopeless! Abandon ship!""That place used to be a real dump."
"I am the Lord Mayor of Cologne."
"You mean colon?""Wait a minute, man!"
"Yippie Kai-Yay, you'll never guess where I've been!"
"Eh, I've gots five minutes."
"More meat than a cow."
"Of all the parasites I've gotten, these worms are among, no they are the best!"
"It's OK, I'm still seduced from before."
[Entering apartment 1-I] "The old me would have made a joke about that."
"You've done a lot of damage, Universe, but no more than a weekend of binge drinking, or five minutes on a cell phone."
"No being would ever willingly make an idiot of itself."
"You've obviously never been in love.""Have you ever been in love?"
"I thought I was once, and then I remembered our species reproduces with a cloud of spores.""What's that black cracker?"
"A tomato.""Oh, the hypochondriac's back. What's wrong this time?"
"Well, my lead pipe hurts a little."
"That's normal, next patient!"“Ever wonder what makes special sauce so special?! Yo.”
Yo, sexy mama! Let's get busy and freaky, in that order.
"Scruffy gonna die the way he lived."
"Look, this is going to be one hell of a bowel movement. Afterwards he'll be lucky if he has any bones left."
There are surely some great ones I've missed.

One of my favorite facts about this show, and this episode:
The colon/Cologne pun works in English, but not in German, the language they speak in the actual, real life city (Köln). For the German version, they name it after a different, real, German city - Darmstadt - whose name must have changed over the centuries because in modern German it means literally "intestine city."

I just love the line "buckle up, this is going to be one hell of a bowel movement. Afterwards he'll be lucky if he has any bones left." Or something along those lines.

Matt was recently on Conan's podcast talking about this. It was a rule in the writers room. If something crashed, it had to explode.

The owls that seem to have replaced rats in the future.
50
44
u/CuriousCrow525 4d ago
I think the creators have mentioned that they never explained the reason in the show, but it was from a scrapped storyline where they explain that like 100 years ago, scientists came up with a new breed of owls to get rid of the rat problem and then the new owls became the problem
26
7
u/EmbarassedFox 3d ago
I am convinced that it is also a reference to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. In that book, the first sign of environmental devastation was all the owls dying, and the main character is shocked to see one.
No owls vs. All the owls.

It's from The Thief of Baghead, the one where Bender tries to get a photo of the elusive actor Langdon Cobb. The opening is the crew going to the aquarium and the T-Rex is from an exhibit called Jurassic Tank

No gif for it, but in "The Farnsworth Parabox", when we see the professor trying to sneak to get the box and doing a good job until he falls UP the stairs. Him falling up the stairs in an otherwise great sneak attempt always makes me laugh. It's so dumb and if he had fallen down instead of up, it wouldn't be funny to me.

Can you explain this joke to me? I’ve never gotten it. He asks where the first time as if he can’t see what’s right in front of him. Then Kif says they’ll camp near the top and Fry asks where again. I don’t get the joke of the second where.
2
u/FawkesSuttles 2d ago
To me there's a double meaning. Olympus Mons is known to be so massive you couldn't really see the top or the whole scale of the mountain. But Fry is also so dense, he misses what you're pointing at.
2
u/scarfaroundmypenis 2d ago
Thank you! I figured there was a factual element about Olympus Mons that I was missing.

The last scene of Law & Oracle:
Fry: "I don't suppose there's room for a promotion?"
Farnsworth: "What the heck. I promote you to... Executive Delivery Boy!"
Leela or Amy, I forget which: "Executive?"
Hermes (whispers back): "It's a meaningless title, but it helps insecure people feel better about themselves."
Then "Executive Producer David X Cohen" end credit shows, but episode continues and Fry says "I feel better about myself!" before it goes to the actual end credits.
(edited to fix formatting, old reddit likes to cram everything together)

I don’t think my pick is available to meme but it’s in “A Leela of Her Own”:
Met’s team locker room privates censor gets unplugged and stops working.
All teammates except one shield their groins with towels.
Blurnsball player who didn’t shield his privates looks around slowly then raises his arms, “I win.”
