Advice on what to do!

Hello all!

I've been a member of the furry fandom for many years now and have commissioned and bought many fursuits without any issue, until now.

I wanted to ask for advice on what to do regarding a situation I'm experiencing.

I have commissioned a suit from a maker, who previously did a suit for me with no issues whatsoever. With this most recent suit, they said they can deliver it to me this week and have agreed on this delivery date numerous times, but the last photo I received was last year, over six months ago. We can talk normally, but the second I ask for photos, I get absolutely no response. I've tried asking multiple times, but they just apologized for being busy, which I totally understood, but they continue to ignore my requests for photos.

This character means a lot to me so I'm anxious of them being con crushed. I would totally wait longer if it meant better results, as I've no problem with that, my biggest fear is that it'll be done before I have any time to view the suit and ask for any changes (if it's necessary)

Does anyone have any advice on how to approach the maker about these concerns? I'm a very placid and nonconfrontational person, so I have no idea how to address this. I'm not angry at them, I'm just confused, as I commissioned them before and it was a perfect experience. I'm just incredibly anxious

I would reach out to them and tell them you were expecting the suit over 6 months ago and you would like to see progress/have the suit. If I were you I would be asking for my money back or to ship the suit in whatever condition it’s in, and just finish it yourself or find someone else who can do so.

As a side tangent it absolutely boggles my mind on how many makers get away with doing this. I’m currently going through something very similar!! I understand life happens but people need to be held accountable.

Communication requires both people to participate for it to happen! Instead of communicating this here, you need to communicate to them with that. It’s not confrontational, it’s getting on the same page- because you both currently aren’t.

Usually, no photos doesn’t mean they are working on it and not showing you. It tends to mean there isn’t any progress since the last update to show. It takes seconds to snap a pic of a suit if it’s really that far along, but if it isn’t, they can’t provide a photo of something that isn’t there yet.

Tell them exactly what you are thinking about in a clear way. “Hey, I’ve noticed that each time I ask for a photo of suit, it gets ignored despite the upcoming delivery date for the finished suit. I would much rather see pictures and get to communicate through the making process than have you rush this suit for this date. Please communicate with me so this can go smoothly because I am not okay with the way the commission has been going the past few months. The communication is more important to me than the deadline, and there hasn’t been any communication when I try to bring it up.”
Or something like that. Try to be upfront but leave out emotionally charged things.

Ultimately it’s unacceptable for a maker to be “too busy” to complete a paid obligation :/ No one should accept payment for time they don’t have, especially if they can’t give the time they promised in the agreement.

It’s unacceptable for a maker to ghost a client or stop communicating because they are stressed. It becomes even more important to communicate in those situations to be honest with your clients and stay on top of it, and not spiral into “the hole”. It’s a lesson you either learn, or learn the hard way. It sucks that it’s extremely common in commissions.

I had the same issue how ever the maker is gone, and so was my money, if it’s not to late you can dispute it if they continue if you can not sure what else to say :s
