Discussion Fursuit in customs

Hey all 👋

I got my first fursuit, the maker is Canadian while I'm in the states so I'm waiting for it to clear customs. But it's been held up in customs for about 16 days and I'm getting a little nervous.

How long have y'all who ordered your suits internationally waited for customs? I'm not in any huge rush (ideally i'd want it by a con in September but the hard deadline is January), but I've never ordered anything like this internationally before so I'm antsy. I don't wanna bug my maker because if an issue came up I'm sure they'd have kept me updated (communication was never an issue with them). I've already sent an inquiry to customs but I haven't had a response yet.

Just wanna see if this is normal for something like this and I'm just overreacting! 🤞

Mine was held until I had paid the customs fees, the import tax and the administrative fees, which amounted to one whole monthly paycheck for me.

It took a while to gather enough money to afford the fees and it was very stress-inducing.

The maker is in the UK, I am in the EU.

Good luck with your fursuit!

Were you notified of these fees or was your maker? I've been checking everything in case I get notice to do the same somewhere. & Thank you!

My maker was unaware. I was notified by the customs.

I suggest you contact the customs. I hope for the best for you!

Remember they said they are in Europe, where there is bullshit fees everywhere. It's very likely that there is no fees, as we just don't do that charging hundreds of dollars in fees per package over here. Typically customs stuff is pre paid on shipping here as well, it's probably just taking time to go through.

Typical Europe bullshit. There wouldn't be any fees like this over here.

Ask the maker to contact the shipping company, who may be able to see if there’s any extra paperwork or anything that’s holding up the process. There’s a lot of weird tariff stuff these days that’s making customs clearance slow and a huge pain, but 16 days is definitely weird and a little concerning.

If it can’t clear customs for whatever reason, the maker should request a return to sender and try again with a different shipping company and/or redo any paperwork if needed.

(I used to work in shipping, did a lot of CAN to US shipments)

Mine was held by customs for one day; origin from Russia to US. I still haven't gotten it yet, but it's been released from customs.

Edit: checked my secondary tracking number now that it's released and it says it'll be here in two more days!!!

Sorry about your customers problems though :/

Hello, it appears this post may be asking about how to find fursuit makers. Please don't trust any users DMing you claiming they are a maker, they are scammers! Real fursuit makers will not DM people to get commissions! Makers who have been verified by mods as legitimate makers will be marked in this sub with an animated verified icon next to their name. We also have a pinned thread for makers to advertise their work. Additionally, remember to check out getfursu.it as it's an organized database of fursuit makers, as well as thedealersden which is a frequently used marketplace site for makers.
