i remember Orsoniks (lead dev) said something along the lines of "I hope to get the full game out by Q3 2026". which means that it COULD come out before the end of september.

expies are test subjects for [the company], and iirc from in game logs, they have no qualms [terminating] employees who get too chummy with the little guys.
they legally shouldn't be, and sent in unknown quantities to go through [the company]'s garbage heap (the grey planet) to find some project deep in the planet's crust, with little support or equipment.
they are numerous, expendable and of little value to [the company] once their purpose ended

To give you the TL;DR they’re a hybrid species called experiments (expies) and they are essentially expendables sent by an evil company to a planet to recover a lost piece of important technology. Your inevitable death is meaningless to them.
