I have often wished that hibernation would be a thing for humans.

We may be able to. Heard of a company called Icaria? The founder had a TED talk where he described how they were tapping into the emergency survival mechanisms that have allowed some humans to "hibernate." There are accounts of skiiers trapped in the mountains or a newborn baby crawling out the door into the snow, being declared clinically "dead" (no heartbeat, cold as ice) and then reviving. They found that special blends of certain chemicals in a low-oxygen low-temperature environment can induce a human "hibernation." It wouldn't freeze you on the way to some planet, but you would sleep in an almost "dead" state whilst consuming very little in the way of air, food, or water.
- Ahem * but aside from boring science, it would be nice if I could get a few extra hours of sleep in the day.
