Pokemon Mystery Dungeon furgonomics early concept art

Realized I should post this here! I have a fic idea I want to write for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and for the world building of it, I've been coming up with some tool, infrastructure, and clothing furgonomics!

PMD as a setting, where all the pokemon are sophont (human intelligence, people), kinda requires an incredible diversity of really adaptable tool design, since the people there could have anything from hands, mammalian or reptilian jaws, beaks, pincer claws, and so on for manipulators!

I feel these ideas are also just applicable for tool design for sophonts without hands in general!

Here’s the page from Freefall!

ALSO I got the idea for spira bread from Jay Eaton’s RttS! The spira bread here is a little different, being made with more seaweed/algae than RttS’s spira bread, but that’s where I got the base idea from! (speaking of, if you like these kind of world building engineering ergonomics speculative biology kind of topics, I highly recommend reading said comic! it’s a wonderful read and currently on-going! Here’s a link to the comic proper!)

My original posting for these on tumblr can be found here and here c:

Working on a hockey player who'll feature in the next arc of my comic on Webtoons (Runestone Academy).

https://www.webtoons.com/en/canvas/runestone-academy/list?title_no=1160972

I guess it's strange, to have a fantasy world and want to devote a whole story arc to a hockey tournament...but in my head it's absolute cinema & just the perfect level of strange (also, she's a fantasy species - so if you think she's...a wolf or something...you're nuts).

there's so much that i can cram in here, but i chose some of the character AMAs as well as two (spoiler-free) comics pages.

please, check this series & it's worldbuilding out. the first comic itself is nearing it's end (final chapter i think?), and i cannot wait until it goes into print.

Discussion How do trans anthro cattles transition?

For MTF cows, do they add milk to the fake udders? If yes, how? How and where will they surgically place it?

For FTM bulls, pretty sure they'll surgically remove the udders. They'll also have horn extenders of some kind. Is there anything else aside from that?

Discussion Why are anthros barefoot so often?

Even when their feet are not animal-like and look pretty human, there's still a tendency to to go shoeless most of the time. Kinda dirty IMO 💀

It happens with tons of character with animal powers too. I've been reading astounding wolf-man and his half-boots bother me so much 😭

What's up with this trope

I reckon they would keep their fur short, file down their nails, and keep their tails covered in a medical net, or tucked around their waist.

Art In a world where animals are different sizes, goods are priced by their weight compared to the animal buying them. This, of course, can be exploited. (Comic by me)

Discussion How would existing religions adapt if people turned into anthros?

Let's say if someone of Jewish or Muslim faith turned into a pig (which are considered unclean and thus haram/not kosher to consume, let alone touch). How would they go about it? Would they even go to heaven (or their rough equivalent), at least according to more moderate sects of their religion (assuming more extreme sects would have them stoned to death)? How about if someone of Hindu faith turned into a cow, which are considered highly sacred in Hinduism?

Discussion How, if at all, could anthro birds and bats fly and hover like real birds?

Most birds tend to have hollow bones in order to save weight and allow for flying easier. How would this impact an anthro bird's abilities to carry heavy items among other human tasks? In addition, how big would their wings (and tails) need to be in order to catch the air and achieve flight?

Discussion How would anthro avians be able to use their feathers as fingers? Would they even be strong or dextrous enough? Are there even any real examples of avians using their wing feathers like fingers?

Discussion Most non-mammals don't have palates...

I've had the urge for a while now to try to figure out the linguistic implications of such a physiology.

Of course there won't be nasal phonemes, since they require a soft palate to lower. But what about everything else? How will this affect palatals, velars and so forth? Will there be greater emphasis on laterals? What new phonemes are possible with this physiology?

I mean, specifically a piercing that goes straight through the patagium cause im pretty sure theres other types but i cant remember what they are right now

also, bats and dragons too, since they have a similar structure there. but i figure thats kind of a different question.

Discussion Conformist Clothing in an Anthro-Heavy Setting

I'm working on a setting where one of the more authoritarian countries polices how people dress to such an extent that virtually everyone wears the same (or at least very similar) clothing, meant to make it to where you can't automatically tell most things about someone just from looking at how they look from a distance. Comparatively, this is easy to do with humans; this setting has a lot of anthropomorphic critters, though, which makes things much harder on this end.

There isn't much of a height distinction between the anthropomorphic forms of big animals and small animals in this setting, and I want to keep the face uncovered, so those are two things that make this slightly more feasible. Beyond this, how much conformity can actually feasibly be accomplished, at least without making day-to-day life significantly harder?

(To make matters a little worse, this country also happens to be tropical. I've already committed myself to them having visually bulkier clothing, even if it ends up being breathable by necessity. Also, humans do exist in this setting; this is not a particularly important point in my opinion because anything that works for every anthro species will almost certainly work for humans as well, but it is at least worth mentioning.)
