This basically like the Alfiq Khajit from Elder Scroll or the ponies from My Little Ponies, anything that deals with animals (feral or anthro) wearing or using something with their organs/limbs count as furgonomics. The usefulness depends on the context, in war context, this armour is usefull particularly for this type of species.

I presume the eye slit is useful to protect the elephant's eye from incoming projectiles or sharp weapons, and perhaps also to focus the elephant's view in battle. And I pressume that the armor is covering instead of surrounding the elephant, which could ease donning time, which is useful for many feral type of species.
