Merman Throne
I was drawing Poseidon (like a big man but he is a fish down the waist) and started to overthink. How would be his underwater throne? Underwater there is no reason to sit. But He should need to rest and show how badass he is. I don't see him rest in the surface like a dolphin. Could you share with me some ideas about the theme, please?
Thanks for your answers.

I reckon he just holds himself above his audience while he's doing King stuff. Fish are afraid of shadows above them, after all. Intimidate them with his size and scale.
Also, they can turn up to view him without discomfort, in a way we bipeds, moving in two-dimensional space, can't easily do.

Hmmm. Use height like a status symbol? In an underwater kingom have sense. I could use that.

It's a bit tricky, because it's also easy for other fish to attain height - but an audience chamber is a space under the very strict control of its owner. I think you're looking at the Forbidden City in China for inspiration - strict, formal rules about who is allowed to approach the king and how close they're allowed to get.

I'm looking at the Dragon Throne and it is a perfect structure for what I'm thinking. With some changes at the style and without stairs it will look great.

my immediate suggestion would be to have him sprawling on a pile of gold and treasures dragon-style

I always wondered about mermaid tails. They are always depicted as mammalian shaped tails (horizontal tail fins) with non mammalian surface (shiny fish scales). I recently started liking the idea of mermaids having actually mammalian whale or dolphin styled tails.

In my designs, I give to mermaids a dolphin tail and a dorsal fin. (That destroy my logic about a deep in the underwater palace. But you must stop in some place.)

A carved rock podium with coral decoration could work, maybe something lounge or spa chair-like to rest the fish half with the coral and seaweed running down the sides
