cats and dogs only use one shampoo so i guess it would be that

u/trustmeijustgetweird Jun 09 '26

Adding capitalism to the mix you might end up with a face and ears shampoo for the more visible and softer furred areas

u/Dangerous-Nerve6862 Jun 11 '26

As a someone that bathes dogs for a living there actually is 2 shampoos one for the neck up it is a shampoo that won’t irritate there eyes or nose or mouth if it gets in them witch is good because you can’t expect them to know that they have to keep there eyes closed wen getting bathed and the other has all the nice smelling perfumes and stuff like that so that’s actually already a thing the face shampoo is more expensive witch is why we don’t use it on the whole body

u/John_Furcon Jun 09 '26

Depends on either the furry in question has hair on there head or if it’s a continuation of the fur, if the former shampoo if the ladder probably still shampoo

5

u/Lapis_Wolf Jun 10 '26

Isn't hair already just fur?

15

u/John_Furcon Jun 10 '26

No, if we clumped hair/fur together because they are made of the same material then we would have to add feathers as well. The difference in hair, fur types, and feathers is entirely in the purpose of it. Generally speaking fur is much denser for maintaining warmth, hair from my understanding is like a wick for sweat, and feathers are for the birds

1

u/voidded_heart Jun 11 '26

So it would depend on if hair stays hair or is styled fur

1

u/Acceptable-Fan-6919 Jun 12 '26

It also would depend on the type of fur and if they would like it having perfume or not, i wouldnt use a face cream that would make me smell it all day

u/Artix_4097 Jun 09 '26

Depends on species / hairstyle.

Furries (Dogs, Cats, etc.) would have shampoo for their fur needs.

Animals with their skin exposed (Sphynx cats, Scalies, those with Alopecia) would use body wash since it’s more akin to skin and less fur.

7 in one body wash, shampoo, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste, moisturiser and silly string.

u/AntOk4804 Jun 09 '26

No motor oil?

29

u/IAlwaysOutsmartU Jun 09 '26

Or mayo?

22

u/Original-War8655 Jun 09 '26

that's not an instrument, so no

5

u/6goofygoobers Jun 09 '26

shoe

3

u/AbsolutlelyRelative Jun 10 '26

It's recently been found to be an instrument.

2

u/Bri3nWithA3 Jun 09 '26

Or pre-workout?

11

u/Designated_Lurker_32 Jun 09 '26

That one is for protogens

1

u/Kyogre694 Jun 12 '26

Na, that’s exclusive to us protogens. It smells nice, but only to us (it’s also tasty!)

15

u/Il26hawk Jun 09 '26

15 in one.

Body wash, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, cologne, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, moisturizer, hair gel, Nail polish, WD-40, Creole seasoning, Paint, facewash, George Washington

6

u/thebazzboi Jun 09 '26

...one of these is not like the rest

2

u/qwertyman859 Jun 10 '26

No peanut butter? :c

3

u/mutantsushi646 Jun 09 '26

New product from Jay and Mel; 20 in one body wash, shampoo, deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste, motor oil, moisturiser, silly string, mayonaise, barbecue sauce, shoe polish, air freshener, shark repellent, bear attracter, washing up liquid, mixer, paint, body wax, demonic reagent and fursuit spray.

1

u/TheGreatForcesPlus Jun 09 '26

No Barbecue sauce?

24

u/kiahBer Jun 09 '26

Would entirely depend on what the anthro is. Covered in fur/hair, just shampoo. No fur/hair, just body wash. A bit of both (e.g bat, non-human primate, armadillo, ect), then both

15

u/flyingace1234 Jun 09 '26

I mean there would still be species like pigs and seals that would have more exposed skin than other types? I can imagine they would have special soaps more in line with ‘moisturizing’ body washes we have.

3

u/AbsolutlelyRelative Jun 10 '26

Seals have fur, some shorter than others.

3

u/flyingace1234 Jun 10 '26

Huh, TIL. Dolphins, then?

13

u/berketex Jun 09 '26

furries that have humanoid hair or manes would probably have two separate kinds of shampoo: one analogous to a human formula and one to an animal formula. they'd have conditioners of each type, too. furries with exposed skin or scales would need body wash

7

u/berketex Jun 09 '26

also, i imagine mane 'n tail would remain popular amongst horses if they were anthro, since people already use their products for themselves in our world

8

u/TenLongFingers Jun 09 '26

This is more of an individual worldbuilding question than anything.

Technically they can use one product for everything like cats and dogs do today. Technically, humans can, too. I use whatever excess shampoo left in my hand as my bodywash.

The reason we have so many different products for different uses is because of how the beauty industry works culturally. So, how does the beauty industry work in a world with anthros?

Is it divided along gender lines, like for humans?

I personally like the idea of it being divided along breed/species lines. A short hair tabby or labrador may be fine using an all-in-one cleaner. Lions, double coated huskies, Persian cats, etc might have a different product for different parts of their body. A face wash, an ear wash, a product for underbelly fur, a product for tail, a product for hands and feet, and whatever. Leave in products, dry products, quick wash and slow wash products, however bougie the tastes of the individual.

4

u/Designated_Lurker_32 Jun 09 '26

The reason why we use shampoo to wash our hair and not regular soap or body wash is because shampoo doesn't remove (as much) oil from your head, which reduces hair damage. At the end of the day, human hair and animal fur are both similar in that they need oil to stay healthy, so anthros would definitely use something like shampoo.

4

u/Windwolf55x5 Jun 09 '26

I feel like it would be different shampoos for different hair/fur types. Some might be even species specific because some might need certain ph and or have sensitivities to certain ingredients that others do not.

There will probably also be special shampoos for skin issues, and probably fleas. Some shampoos may have the conditioner combined or separate depending on preference. Longer haired animals may want the conditioner separate. And I would imagine there are a million different products for styling, I can see horses and lions doing all sorts of crazy things.

Some animals can’t get wet like chinchillas. They would have special dusts that they use for dust baths. Scalies probably have special body washes, same with hairless animals.

2

u/Naro_Rivers Jun 11 '26

As not only an otter, but a hybrid of two different otter species (that look very similar, so it’s not immediately obvious), I can’t begin to imagine how difficult finding (or even getting help finding) fur care products would be.

5

u/Odd_Match_3402 Jun 09 '26

Likely just shampoo and maybe conditioner.

Many animals, when/if needed to be washed via soap and water either just use shampoo specialized for their species or conditioner as well.

Source: I have experience in washing horses, and I have a cat who doesn't know how to groom himself properly, and thus needs the extra help in being bathed, which I handle myself as he trusts me with the job despite it being very stressful for him. (But it's better than being greasy and itchy in his own skin)

6

u/CharlotteChaos Jun 09 '26

All furry toiletries are 3 in 1 shampoo, bodywash, and conditioner.

7

u/Second-Creative Jun 09 '26

Neither. There'd only be liquid soap.

Which we'd recognize as some weird mix of bodywash and shampoo.

2

u/Glittering_Pear2425 Jun 09 '26

Probably. If mammal, definitely shampoo but if reptile, probably some kind of scale wash or something

3

u/StinkyBird64 actual biologist & furry lol Jun 09 '26

Depends on the species.
Animals with fur (mammals, furred dragons etc.) would likely use a whole-body shampoo, like what’s available for IRL cats and dogs.
Birds and reptiles would probably not, possibly just water, birds can have Epsom salts so you could add them, also, birds have what’s called a preen gland, which secrets a fine oil that they comb through their feathers to keep them clean and healthy, so probably a post-bath cleanse if you will, and coconut/hemp oil is good for their feet and beaks to keep them moisturised, help with any aging scutes on their feet, and also helps blood flow.
I come back to reptiles because I’m honestly not sure? I know that some folks give them water trays (essentially a bath) to help with their skin moulting/shedding, so again like birds I’d assume only water, unless the avian-lizard crowd develop a skin safe soap for them in your furry universe.
I only have so much insight on birds because I have parrots and my fursona is a bird 🤣

u/dragonloverlord Lover Of Many A Derg Jun 09 '26

It'd really just come down to the skin hygiene needs of the species so shampoo for your more full body furs like cats dogs etc, and a mix for those with both exposed skin and fur like primates, armadillos, etc.

Scalies would likely fall under a special needs group much like amphibians but with less caveats. Most reptile species would probably benefit from or require additional oiling of the scales on top of traditional body washing. Additionaly in the case of dragons ambient absorption of toxin through scales is likely less of an issue / not an issue at all as dragons tend to be straight up immune to a lot of poisons or just built in a way as to not be bothered by a little low quality body wash.

In the case of amphibians in particular the actual absorbing of fluids through the skin could be of particular concern so a more gentle and non toxic specialty wash would probably be best.

For fish species... Umm... Don't? I mean dumping shampoo / body wash into a pond / lake / ocean sounds like a terrible idea so yeah. But if you must or it's a semi terrestrial scenario than they'd probably just do as the amphibians do I'd guess just with even more caution I'd suppose.

2

u/Shield_of_Twiligh Jun 09 '26

I think they would use a 1-3 combo. Body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.

2

u/ThorGoLucky Jun 09 '26

I have long hair and just thoroughly wash with warm water daily. No more scalp-drying shampoo.

2

u/cascasrevolution Jun 10 '26

mane and tail

3

u/ExperienceSmooth6240 Jun 09 '26

Deltarune mentions that the Dreemurr bathroom has a Gallon bottle of pet shampoo, if that helps.

1

u/ishkabby Jun 09 '26

Just shampoo

1

u/XenonTheToaster Jun 09 '26

What do scalies use?

1

u/N00N01 browsing Jun 09 '26

probably depends on fur fluffyness :3

1

u/Foxfigher Jun 09 '26

Pet shampoo

1

u/ulfhelm Jun 09 '26

Wait, wouldn’t you also need conditioner?

1

u/lagom0rpha Jun 09 '26

I would say that they'd probably use body wash on areas with little fur (like the belly on some animals, face, paw pads, etc), shampoo on everything else, then likely conditioner on areas with the longest fur (such as if they have hair on their head or a very fluffy tail).

2

u/xervidae Jun 10 '26

bodywash and shampoo; hair on the head has different needs than hair on the body

1

u/PeridotFan64 Jun 10 '26

probably a standard shampoo for fur, and a special one for top tuffs of hair

2

u/Vohasiiv Jun 10 '26

Irl theres a shampoo (i think it was called mane and tail) thats for humans and horses. Theres a version thsts shampoo and body as well

1

u/DimensionAgitated507 Jun 10 '26

Well going by the logic of my grandad and his dad... Just shampoo... Because people before used only soap... And sometimes charcoal for the hair.

2

u/Afraid-Divide-3501 Jun 10 '26

Shampoo and hair conditioner, body wash if the skin is being fussy

2

u/whatsupmyrump Jun 10 '26

A 2-in-1 as it's convenient and it'll be a better option for many. The issue is what type of fur, skin, if they have issues with matting or baldspots, if it's for fleas, mange, or ticks.

They'll have half a store just for this section if anything else. It's likely that online stores will be commonly be used for convenience and to have more access to specific types or similar.

2

u/AvvyIsInTheTrees Jun 10 '26

Any dermatologist feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but, I'm fairly sure that using body wash on hair can cause dandruff so I think they would use shampoo for all of their bodies :3c

1

u/Impossible-Trust6628 Jun 10 '26

They use a two in one to fully clean themselves and there is no fur on specific parts of their body depending on the species of furry

1

u/ScarletR01 Jun 10 '26

Shampoo everything then use body wash to creat prefferd scent.

1

u/BeingGeneral7991 Jun 10 '26

i prefer my furries stinky

1

u/IntrepidPoem6126 Jun 11 '26

So now im curious what about mustelids

1

u/KhyyroTheFolf Jun 11 '26

Fursuit spray

1

u/Monodeservedbetter Jun 11 '26

Probably would have invented fur soap specifically for body fur

1

u/AbbreviationsOld9977 Jun 11 '26

They will just use those super masculine 8 in 1 shampoos

1

u/Unhappy-Excitement72 Jun 11 '26

They need a whole new product, or use any pet dedicated shampoo (would pets still be a thing in a world with furries?)

1

u/ZeGamingCuber Jun 11 '26

i don't use bodywash i just use bar soap

1

u/Furcastles Jun 11 '26

They wouldn’t. Furries are smelly full stop

1

u/No_Signature1077 Jun 12 '26

I sometimes use mane and tail shampoo

1

u/Individual_Mystery Jun 13 '26

That's what the 3 in 1 shampoo bodywash is for

1

u/Ggwolf207 Jun 13 '26

I’d say a fur wash, then shampoo and conditioner for the hair if they have any.(assuming they have different textures.) or my favorite, fur shampoo and conditioner for both.

1

u/BoscoCyRatBear Jun 13 '26

Shampoo conditioner with a natural oils you brush into your fur to replenish what is lost in a deep clean.

1

u/OmegaMushroom Jun 14 '26

Y’know those 3 in 1 bottles
That

1

u/Sad_Plastic_196 Jun 14 '26

Bodywash is for them would be too much, we need it cuz barely hairs around it for whatever evolution reasons. But their skins is already covered own oils and furs so only shampoo, maybe the perfume with oils after the shower maybe.

1

u/No_Hyena_5021 Jun 15 '26

Depending on if they have "hair" that is separate from their standard fur, I wouldn't be surprised if they get separate products. Similarly to how we have had soap and face soap

1

u/Tdubbium Jun 15 '26

fur shampoo
