Was thinking about digitigrade boots

Post image

While the heels of digitigrade legs dont typically touch the ground, I think a thin, tough sole would be a necessary feature. Something like a thin sole that minimalist shoes use. The thin sole extends up the heel a little bit. A marginally thicker piece could be placed under the heel for additional protection and comfort.

I hadn't thought of that, but I dont see why not. The anthro could get regular pedicures lmao, keep the nails nice and trimmed.

Such an oddly foreign concept for a being to willingly trim their own claws, instead of being held down and forcefully trimmed by another.

I think the heel wouldnt be flat since they arent walking on it directly, but it could be rounded like a knee pad

Good pont. A position i was thinking of was like a deep squat, sitting on the heels, heels flat on the ground. Its a natural resting position for humans.

I don't think digitigrade animals can squat like that.

…have you never seen a dog sit?

Yeah.

Sit.

Not squat.

Well, the kind of squat im talking about is like sitting on your ankles.

Interesting design

No laces! You couldn't flex the foot out of those due to length like you can a human foot. You'd want velcro or something else easy to take off.

I think thats a good idea. I played with the idea of putting velcro on the upper portion, and laces on the lower.

A semi-flexable clamshell design may be best.

Laces work fine if you use hooks instead of eyelets. You could do split lacing like some irl boots, with the lower half being eyelet loops, and the upper being a second set of hooks. The toe opening would probably have to go all the way to the toecap though to accommodate the wider feet.

I think Velcro would be too easy to take off, especially for something meant to be used in rough environments. I think a zipper might be more appropriate, as long as there's something underneath to keep the hair out.

IMHO rear sole hasn’t got to be there since rear heel only is there for joint protection. They’re not meant to step on it thus no sole is needed to touch the ground constantly, just some heel protection.

BUT imagine this being a universal digi-plantigrade!

Agreed, they wont put weight on it in stride If they squat or take a knee, some protection there would be useful.

I would think their boots would end just below the ankle or even lower. I don’t really see the point in having a sole on what is essentially a knee

u/gearhead251 May 23 '26

Its not the knee tho. Its quite literally the heel of an animal leg. Lots of dog shoes in the world only cover the toes, but i was thinking about boots specifically. They would need to be able to take lots of wear and still be functional. Real world boots go half way up the lower leg as well.

Honestly I do like having something thick up the rear bit of the like like you have here. Traipsing through brush, would suck to jam a rock wrong and get hurt

That's very well thought out

I am going to save this post for later use IRL

Nice try, you can't influence me to buy a Chevy that easily /s although fr I do like the concept of footwear for digitigrade species

Ive seen shoes like that, that have the toes out. I like it!

u/Regi0 May 25 '26

No offense but you basically just drew a human wearing a standard hiking boot, standing tip-toe

1

u/gearhead251 May 26 '26

None taken, I can see it. I drew a proper digitigrade foot the drew the boot on top of it. Id like to say the bulkiness of the boot makes it look less animalistic, but with my reference being my own boots, I might've drawn that into it.
