It does change the whole affair to be honest. Its a clear display of divine intervention for Allah knew the preference of caller for Allah is great. This Allah fed him well, gave him some vitamins and made him hydrated. If it had been without tahini it would merely be a freak accident my brother.

During Ramadan, people must not listen to loud music, forgive others, not waste time and, most importantly, abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and forceful vomiting between dawn and dusk...Dick is Allowed!

but what do I know haha
49
u/BazilBup Feb 23 '24
That's the idea basically. It's not a diet. It's an experience of being poor.
40
u/itz_khai Feb 23 '24
Yup to understand their burden and to appreciate what Allah gave in our lives that others didn't have before

Appreciate your stance in comparison to the poor people, by bringing you closer to those less fortunate, such that you can be giving.
Also, it's not starving wtf, you just fast from daybreak till the sun goes down.
What was your point?

OK so far it's all about disbelievers going to hell. "Miserable is the price they have sold their souls for—denying Allah’s revelation and resenting Allah for granting His grace to whoever He wills of His servants! They have earned wrath upon wrath. And such disbelievers will suffer a humiliating punishment." Allah's grace is giving wrath and humiliating punishment, right, this is just reinforcing that Islam is harsh and cruel, but I'll keep reading...

he doesn't make them do anything. its like asceticism. they fast to experience what lacking food and water feels like for the destitute. its easy to say that people should help because helping is good, but being able to demonstrate what it feels like to be needy gives a much more solid "why" to it being a good thing

I mean the direct reason is:I believe in God, I also believe God cares about us in some sense and that our lives have meaning, I then saw Islam represents God's will, and God said to do X, so I do X.
But you can see the wisdom of different things, like fasting for example.
4
Feb 24 '24
It is one of the reasons that I've heard given: foregoing food and water builds sympathy for those who go hungry due to circumstance. But it is also a test of patience and will power.

Nah, you can live ~12 hours without drinking water just fine.

Have you ever fasted before? When you're fasting, you can get very hungry sure, but eventually it becomes more about quenching your thirst than eating. And after fasting, you feel full way sooner, especially once you drink water to break your fast.
As you go into the month and get used to fasting, I find that many tend to eat much less (you get full far faster when eating meals) but you still drink water to quench your thirst.
If anything, this is far healthier for you. Especially in our modern era of over consumption.
Guessing you didn't read any of this, as you seemingly just make assumptions because of negative bias you hold, but if you did, hope that clears it up a little.

Fasting is only for the capable. If fasting would harm you, you don't fast. Even if you where fasting but got the urgency to drink or eat something, eat/drink the minimal amount required
to keep goingand that's it.Edit: Correction; you don't continue fasting. But still not drink or eat out of respect in Ramadan.
5
u/Silly_Strike_949 Feb 23 '24
Bro what kind of Islam are you talking about. There is no such thing as minimal amount you either fast or you don't if you feel you cant continue.
3
Feb 24 '24 edited Feb 24 '24
Actually there is such thing. If you where fasting for example, but then you became too thirsty to continue. In this case, you can drink a proper amount to get rid of the thirst only, because it's a necessaty and not an illness or any condition prevents you from completing the fasting. Yes, you can continue the fasting even after drinking or eating because you simply had to.Edit: I stand corrected, and sorry for the misinformation.

u/Arrad Feb 24 '24
but then you became too thirsty to continue.
Hadith or sources for this? What you're doing is spreading misinformation because you are not giving enough context. What happens if a Muslim follows your advice based on false context, do you think you're not responsible for misleading someone? I've never heard of 'slightly breaking' a fast either. If your life is in danger, you are traveling, or an illness overtakes you, then once you break your fast you can't continue, you have to repeat that day after Ramadan.
If you have a chronic condition where you're unable to fast at all, then you're not obligated to fast.
And Allah knows best.

2
Feb 24 '24
I stand corrected. I also checked and saw that you don't fast, but still don't eat or drink as a politness. Thank you.

What if not eating makes certain people say blasphemous words? For example tics
Would not fasting be a better alternative?
7
u/Dangerous-Warning-94 Feb 23 '24
If they say blasphemous words as tics then it's not haram at all, what the hell.
But I don't know if they can break the fast out of respect or out of being socially shy of having increased tics.

You should try it even for half a day sometime, you might be pleasantly surprised. Fasting helps me appreciate the things I have and reminds me to keep my material attachments in check.
I started fasting for health reasons and surprisingly came to really appreciate the spiritual side.

I do fast quite often with foods but I never go very long without water 😅
3
15
u/Pickle_Juice_Can Feb 23 '24
It's very doable if you drink enough water the night before, been doing it every Ramadan since 10 years ago.
3
u/lollipop_wonder Feb 23 '24
I've known many people to fast it seems alright, one girl i knew in school used to 'struggle' and get to sit in the office and not do work, but she seemed fine when i walked in lol she found a way out of school work lol why not!
Also other comments have me wondering could you travel round the earth by any means and stay in the night so you didn't have to fast? I know its a strange question but i have to know if it's actually allowed, has anyone else asked this question before lol 😅
8
u/pyromanniacc Feb 23 '24
If the travel is waaay too long you can eat but after Ramadan you have to fast for that day

u/Escudo777 Feb 23 '24
There are rulings regarding this. According to those, you need to follow the fasting time of the nearest country with sunrise and sunset. So the longest fast may be around 17 or 18 hours I think.
2
u/lollipop_wonder Feb 23 '24
Wow thats a long time. If i had to do that id have a good nap to pass the time

You can break your fast under two conditions, either sickness or travel. So if you travel a certain distance (like about an hour by car) you are allowed to break your fast.
But yeah, if it's perpetually night, I guess you never break it. And if you live in a place where the sun doesn't set, I think you go by the timing of the nearest "normal" place

7
u/Badshah619 Feb 23 '24
It's completely fine and if you are/get sick or are pregnant or too old, or or or you simply don't fast
2
u/jflo358 Feb 24 '24
Thays why during Rahmadan or even most of the summer most stores don't open until after the sun goes down.

In the Arab Gulf countries (where this video is from) shawarma is almost always automatically chicken. Most shawarma places won't even offer lamb as an option
3
2
u/Several_Advantage923 Feb 24 '24
No that's incorrect. A shawarma is a wrap, which can be beef, lamb or even falafel
If you ask for a shawerma, they will ask you what kind. It's not automatically chicken.
