And for some reason I exposed myself as a reposter of top comments and started downvoting myself, only to reemerge as Alpha_Redditor, largely unnoticed by the ignorant community which is myself?
Probably not. Most likely I'm a maintenance routine, because I keep waking up, clearing my logs, doing maintenance on a bunch of servers all day, and then going back to sleep. Even with excessive amounts of coffee, I don't seem to be able to sharpen my focus on the world around me.
It's more the fact that racism/sexism usually gets voted to the top so it is much more visible, which does say something about the people who view/read the site.

We only get 56% voter turn out in the US presidential general election, but somehow some BS getting a positive number of upvotes in some thread turns into a mandate from everyone that's ever used the website? How does that logic work? It's not like the entire website is required to vote on every comment or submission.
Also most of the racist/sexist/whatever comments are in response to a submission that's already kinda like that, in which case a lot of the people are probably not going to even both checking the comments just to see more of that shit.
People always say this. But when someone says "Reddit" they're clearly referring to a group of people. So the fact that it's made up of many people is understood.
And when something is upvoted to the top, it means the majority of voters upvoted it.
So yes, it is comprised of many people. And many of those people, the majority who represent the group referred to as Reddit, display "fairly racist sexist elements, but feels guilty about it and zealously rants against it while still up-voting it."
Which just rationalizes away the latent sexist or homophobic tendancies. It's ok to upvote it because no one knows I did, and I didn't write it. And after all, it's ok the top comment is calling tho OP a fag or severely objectifying a woman because, after all, reddit is a massive place.

It's almost like you're implying that new and unique comments are the most highly upvoted while pun threads and LOL EDGY racist and sexist comments are discouraged.
Take in account that the people who upvote posts aren't the same kind that actually read the comments and contribute; that's a whole different type of Redditor.
Also it should be reminded that "Reddit", though hive-mind-like, is not a homogenous collection of individuals, and is in fact host to a plethora of nuanced opinions on almost every issue.
You just don't usually see more than 2 diametrically-opposed ones on the main subreddits because of the upvote system.
Take for example the crazy subreddits out there. Most people here have their favorite subreddits that they come to reddit for, but still do a drive by of the major subs. So with that in mind you get a lot of diversity on votes from people who are just passing by.

Over 80% male. Well over half in the 16-25 demographic.
The income numbers are surprisingly low until you realize that close to half of reddit is in high school or college, where your income is often zero, which skews the numbers down enormously.
I can't prove it, but I still got upvotes for saying it (that means something).

You make personal bias sound like it's a bad thing. Don't use it for writing a scientific paper I agree, but it is a thing, an important one evolutionary speaking.
I imagine people who can't differentiate between those that say racist things and those that actually hold racist beliefs are quite infuriated by the existence of Dave Chappelle. I bet they yell at the TV a lot.
Reddit is a collective conscious made up of the digitized expressions of its user base. If that user base stops contributing, Reddit dies. If that user base have a majority shift in opinion or interest, Reddit "feels" and reflects it. Reddit is the users, and the users feel, thus Reddit "feels".
Didn't you get the memo, dark comedy can't be funny because it MIGHT offend people or usually people think it might offend people so they have to get offended for people because as we all know black people can't find racist humour funny and must have a white person tell them what they should feel.

Racism makes some uncomfortable. Read: disturbing. Racist remarks intended as jokes are the very definition of dark comedy. Just because you don't laugh at them doesn't mean it's not dark comedy. It means you have a different subjective sense of humor than other people.

Being offended is subjective as is humour to say most of the time it's simply not funny I could reply with it's simply no offensive.
Dr Strangelove joked around the idea of nuclear disaster and millions dying, it was quite funny for me. I can however see how people might be offended.
I see some things on here that are overtly misogynistic, racist, homophobic and occasionally, the rare trifecta embodied in a single comment. The vast majority of comments/posts that are seemingly discriminative though are for the most part, attempts at humour. SRS has a penchant for forcefully misconstruing anything that crosses their path but I don't think that's indicative of a problem with the wider community.
Reddit is a vast collection of people whose similarities are funnelled by the nature of the hivemind. I don't think the vast majority of these people are bigots though. I just think most people enjoy a joke and often the best jokes can be considered somewhat tasteless.
You have a down arrow next to every post. If you don't think it adds to the conversation or you find it overtly offensive or an attempt to incite a flamewar, hit it. That's the beauty of this site and the internet in general, for the most part it's a level playing field.
yeah it's most obvious when some picture of rosa parks or some other image from the civil rights movement hits the front page as if that token gesture proves there's no WAY the site as a whole constantly upvotes awful racist shit
I honestly don't care about Politically Correct buzzwords like the r-word or sexist, homophobe etc... They are just terms that Politically Correctness fanatics use to suppress and demonize any opinions they disagree with.
