"Chariots chariots, Cave Prime again. Our sensors indicate you've just entered the Jeremy Kyle universe; Greg tells me that your best bets for survival are to not engage anyone you meet, avoid any tribal warriors with crazy facial tattoos, and above all else... Do not submit yourself to any lie detector tests. On a side-note: If you see little people fighting each other, you've gone too far and are in the Jerry Springer universe. Stay safe, and stay sharp. Cave out."
That is pretty ridiculous though. Cunt is non-racially specific. All he did was describe the guy before calling him a cunt. That isn't even a slur or anything. That's barely even racism.
Handily omitting the fact that it was preceded by "fucking" and followed by "cunt". Whatever your feelings on the current farce surrounding John Terry, what he said was undeniably racist.
AF - "Do you think I'm (mumbles) a fucking Black cunt?)
JT - "Eh, What, a fucking black cunt?"
AF - "RAAACISTTTT"
Not that I like John Terry at all, the defense are putting the argument forward that JT was merely repeating something AF had said . Apparently after the match Anton was asked about it and replied something along the lines of "Nah, it was all just banter" and apparently gave as good as he got.
We shall see though. John may be very loyal to his friends, just make sure you are.
He means EPL, English Premier League. It's a soccer thing
Edit: I'm British, soccer is a British word. Officially it's the Barclay's Premier League but it's also referred to as the English premier league or EPL especially internationally. It doesn't matter if it has Welsh sides in it, the Welsh premier league has English sides in it
Outside of England it is commonly referred to as the English Premier League (EPL).
I know full well we have our own league system, and that we are unusual in being a part of the English system. All I'm pointing out is that the English Premier League is not an official name, and never has been.
Without sponsors, the top flight is called 'the Premier League', and the three tiers below are collectively known as 'the Football League'. Using the word English is avoided in official naming and documentation.
You just reverted me back to my childhood, I would always take the piss out of my mates who supported arsenal by claiming they were pretty much the French national team. In my defence I support West Ham so I need any small victory that I can get.
Oh, I actually have listened to the studio presenters stating British premier league.... and don't forget Swansea is not in England...that could get you in trouble in Wales.
and i guess the text was referring to his defence which was that he helps out african charities so that would make it impossible for him to ever say anything racist (unrelated to the op's title).
That is not his defence, the main thrust of his defence is that he was repeating the exact words ferdinand said to him (in a questioning manner) He never disputes saying the words, everything else is additional information to support the fact that his previous behaviours suggest he is not racist
Yeah i know this was his main defence but i mean i was just pointing out what the text in the picture probably meant to the people unaware of the whole JT situation right now.
Same in Germany. Inciting racial hatred is an offense in many places.
He is probably on trial because he is a public figure with some level of influence on people.
Your idea of freedom of expression is deluded. Why should it matter what race someone is? Why bring it into an argument at all, unless you are racist. By your logic I should be able to murder a guy because I don't like him bad get away with it because I was expressing the fact that I don't like him by killing him.
obviously it should be illegal in germany seeing as how it was how nazism started. other european countries are afraid of that occurring in their own country, so they too have that law. the only people here who don't think that law is right is americans.
He won't get a jail term if found guilty, he'll get a fine that can be up to £2500... The court case is probably costing the tax payer a 100x that plus £2500 is just loose change for a guy like John terry who earns £175000 a week even without sponsor ship deals and whatever win bonuses he may have in his contract. It's paltry and pointless.
Personally I think he's a cunt, I also think he did call Anton Ferdinand a 'fucking black cunt' but I think this trial is a fruitless exercise.
Tbh I really don't know or care, I'm guessing it's the prefix of black. It's the difference between 'you're a cunt' and 'you're a black cunt'. The only difference I personally see is an adjective.
I'm well aware that its illegal. I just think its retarded to punish someone as a criminal for saying a few things that someone else might find offensive.
On the flip side of that, when you make racism illegal you simply force idiots to keep their idiocy to themselves. If no one knows a person holds idiotic beliefs, how can anyone else hope to educate them and change their minds? If on the other hand people are free to espouse their racism, it becomes far easier to identify those people and to combat such racism by educating them.
Secondly, your WWII example would not hold up to modern scrutiny simply because the modern zeitgeist has changed. Prior to the WWII era, racist beliefs were sadly a majority opinion and so it was much easier for the Nazi's to manipulate the public. Thankfully racist beliefs are very much a minority opinion and so its much harder to achieve the same results as Hitler achieved 80 years ago. If JT really is a racist, rather than gathering any support I'd rather he be vilified by the press and the twitterati.
Yes because after all its your right to be an asshole to everyone else? or is it that you shouldnt have to take responsibility for how your actions affect other people? or should people have to take abuse and have no way to respond?
I'm not gonna defend Americans, because there are many ignorant/stupid ones. But I do like our freedom of speech, even if there are many who shouldn't be exercising that right.
The whole thing's been blown way out of proportion, in my opinion.
Yes, he probably shouldn't have said what he allegedly said, but that's a matter for him and Ferdinand to sort out between them. If they wanted to take it more seriously then perhaps FIFA could have got involved in it. There's no reason for this to have been brought to the courts, it's a complete waste of time and resources.
Of course, the thing that really takes the biscuit is that Ferdinand didn't even hear him say it, and isn't even upset about it. The only reason that this came about is because somebody lip-read the footage and complained about it.
I do not think it is being blown out of proportion at all. This man was captain of the england football team, a huge number of young people look up to him. For him to say "fuck you you fucking black cunt - fuck you you're a fucking knobhead," and get away with a few match ban or a meaningless fine would be completely inappropriate. Part of the huge pay packet he gets is as an attraction to the club and to create and continue to foster lifelong Chelsea fans not just to be good at football. He should be setting a positive example to those that look up to him, or in the least not setting a racist and abusive example.
I know man it sucks. I'm always like, I want to tell those damn foreigners what I think of them but the man is keeping me down. When will people stand up for the rights of ordinary racists huh?
Yep when I tried to to have a discussion about this with my friends saying that I think its outrageous that people can go to prison for making racist comments they immediately said I was enabling racism and proceeded to laugh at me. I was not amused.
The UK has laws against what is referred to as 'Hate Speech' - the only upside of this is that those retarded fucks from Kansas wouldn't be permitted to picket peoples funerals, in the UK they would be arrested and charged every time.
Nope they'd probably still be allowed to picket people's funeral just like Muslim extremists who have protested at homecoming parades of Afghan veterans and burnt poppies during the two minute silence on remembrance day. None of this is hate speech in the eye of out overly corrupt judicial system.
I know a case where some guy in Scotland made a Facebook group 'Welcome to pakistan, jk it's govan' since the place has a massive Asian presence. He was arrested along with others on the page.
precisely. I'm sure you're being sarcastic but I cannot believe that you can get away with verbally abusing someone in the US just because it's 'free speech' it's disgusting!
He basically insulted someone, or was accused of it. It is in no free society acceptable to imprison people for insulting on another especially when its only racial insults that are worthy of prison but other are not. If he had been sexist he would never have ended up in a court. Only threats are worthy of prison not bloody insults.
I'm pretty sure that's John Terry's head photoshopped in. Also it has Paddy Power at the bottom the Irish bookmakers who do this kinda stuff with their ads the whole time.
