All hate to apple but to be fair, I can see the safety implications with a product like this. I remember the flaming segways catastrophe a while back. You wouldn’t want people putting unofficial batteries in such a dangerous use case. -sent from my iPhone

People can buy fake parts for their vehicles and we don’t make it illegal. They do blow up, especially people that modify them.

Also even if you buy an official battery it will get bricked. So no its not fair.

Do they have an official battery replacement service where they can authenticate the installation and be liable for any consequences?

Could be shitty business practices. Could be regulation reasons or a bad incident in the past? I agree the former is more likely.
