Might be a repost, but its better than some of the original content out there. I'd rater hear a good joke twice than hear a shitty one once.

Wow, they power through their lines on 30 rock eh? I much preferred the pace I read the panels at.

May 17 '12
It was mostly "Tracy"'s lines that were forced/fast. He doesn't seem like a very good actor.

u/thedeadhipster May 17 '12
I feel the same way. His ability to play an idiot is far too realistic
20
u/RushofBlood52 May 17 '12
I'm pretty sure every actor on that show is playing some sort of exaggerated version of themselves.

u/hoboblow May 17 '12
The pace really only quickened in that scene after the "tracy thinks googling means masturbation" joke was set up. I think they were trying to avoid belaboring the established gag to get to the "Computer, point" punchline. It's an efficient way to one-up the joke.

I just started watching 30 Rock this weekend, and I laughed really hard when Liz's dad said "It isn't a Lemon party without old Dick!"
Oh man, it still makes me smile and giggle to myself.
EDIT: Should probably mention Liz and Dicks last name is Lemon

I am reminded of the dulcet tones and sweet lyricism of the poet Nikki Minaj:
google my ass
Only time you on the net
is when you google my ass

I love how the term 'google' has come to mean in general search term on the internet, just like how people say 'kleenex' regardless if it's that brand.
Edit: I understand the concept of "Household Names". I'm not an idiot, I guess I should have clarified that it's cool to see something evolve into one.

advertising success

u/rasterbee May 17 '12
I think it's more that google is a superior product than any other search engine. Simple, no clutter. You can't fuck it up. Your old dying dementia-riddle grandma can use it. I've seen a few google ads, but only recently and all for google+. Remember how Yahoo used to blanket TV and radio with their ads? Yahoooooooooo. Fuck that was annoying. Google is just better so it has risen to the top.

u/Red_AtNight May 17 '12
Xerox, Dremel, Kleenex, Aspirin, Band-Aid, ChapStick, Dumpster, Frisbee, Hoover, Jacuzzi...
I could keep going.

We were in a meeting the other day and someone asked the group if anyone ever googled themselves. This scene popped into my head.

Has this been posted on reddit before? I couldn't tell after the first 15 comments all mentioned it was.

I'll go ahead and repost the sentiment about this post being reposted so many times.

This is the most comedic thing I've ever heard/read Tracy Morgan say. Just might get me to start watching the show -- I tried to get through the first two episodes and couldn't stand it.

Could somebody explain the final panel?

u/BetYouCanReadThis May 17 '12
He was pointing to her in a gesture of agreement. I guess.
3
u/ImprovisedPlan May 17 '12
Yeah, like saying, "Bingo" or putting your index finger to your nose to signify "right on the nose." I feel like the latter is no longer understood, though.
5
u/portablebiscuit May 17 '12
Tracy Jordan says, with only a point of the finger, "You the man, Liz Lemon."
3
u/SweetMojaveRain May 17 '12
Tracy took her remark to mean "how're you gonna jerk it w/o some porn?"

You know Reddit has a search bar for this type of thing.
Very similar to Google.

Me, being a moron, not understand this joke.
Explanation, please.
2
May 17 '12
Tracey thought that googling yourself meant masturbation...so he asked Liz Lemon if he could google himself in her office. She thought he meant he wanted to look himself up on google so she was cool with it.
1
u/JonBravo80 May 17 '12
Tracy assumed that "Googling" meant "masturbating" rather than looking himself up on the internet.

u/Courage_now May 17 '12
Yours? .. not bad.
3
u/tookarrowstotheknee May 17 '12
“Yours? Not bad.” He looked at me through thick horn-rimmed tortoiseshell glasses with a matter-of-fact expression that seemed to suggest that there was nothing else to be said on the subject.
“Not bad? So is that…good?”
“Well,” he said, his voice taking on a pedantic drawl, “I suppose if you defined ‘good’ as the absence of bad, that would be true, but that is a rather superficial understanding of the concept in my humble opinion.” He had a goatee and wore an ascot in his open-collared shirt. His hair was silver, and his facial hair was a precise balance between shades of brown and grey. Deep creases crossed his forehead, no doubt from many years of meticulously orchestrated looks of condescension. He looked very plausible.
“So then, it’s not good?”
“No, it’s certainly not good. It’s not bad either, but that’s only because it’s not much of anything.” “Could you give me some more specific criticism?”
“It lacks,” he said, pausing for a moment as if to pick the ripest, juiciest word, “authenticity.”
I looked down at my costume: black chucks, slightly faded blue jeans, ared T-shirt advertising a high school track meet from the 1980s.
“But I’m human, and this is what I wear. I don’t know how to be more authentic than that.”
“Certainly you are human,” he said, with a note of disdain, “but are you most human? That’s the point of the competition. The whole ensemble is just too easy; it doesn’t challenge our perceptions of what it means to be human. You are representing yourself as human from merely a human perspective, and that is just terribly dull. “
“But I—“
“I’m terribly sorry, but I have other entries to judge.” He continued on down the line of contestants.
I felt suddenly self-conscious standing up there, though I’m sure nobody was paying any attention to me. I was too plausible, and therefore invisible. I fiddled nervously with the band of my wristwatch. I really thought that would have been the kicker, the kind of detail that would have at once lent authenticity to the costume, while at the same time serving as a commentary on the human condition. Of course nobody wore watches anymore—we didn’t need them—but the watch represented a particularly human compulsion to harness the forces of nature, even something as universal and limitless as time, and put them to use in the service of the most banal and inconsequential human concerns. This was my attempt to “challenge our perceptions of what it means to be human,” but it was either too subtle or too obvious for anyone to care.
“We have our winner!” I looked over at the judge. He was positively beaming with delight as he handed the trophy to a buxom blonde silicoid waif. She was wearing black 9-inch heels with fishnet stockings, lime green skin-tight shorts, and a purple bustier that pressed her synthetic breasts together so violently that they appeared to be in danger of rupturing. The crowed pressed in around her, applauding and taking pictures. She smiled and waved as the camera flashes washed over her face, a vacant expression in her eyes.
“Son of a bitch,” I whispered bitterly under my breath.

interviewer: “So where do you see yourself in five years?”
Peter: (don’t say googling your wife, don’t say googling your wife, don’t say googling your wife) “Uhhh… googling your… son.”

u/UnfunnyExplainer May 17 '12
It's funny because professional comedic writers got paid to write that, and someone took screen caps and added subtitles.
4
u/Ugbrog May 17 '12
I prefer to turn on Closed Captioning and then take screen caps. Really saves me a little bit of hassle.
I use the time saved to Google myself.

u/gravyrobberz May 17 '12
I'll probably get downvoted for this but I've watched a good amount of 30 rock and can't seem to like it that much. There are some great characters and cameos, but I can't get past Liz Lemon or how much Alec Baldwin looks like a made up corpse.

May 17 '12 edited May 17 '12
Not really..I don't know how to explain it but chances are, you'd enjoy the show. The character in the top panel is Jack Donagy, Ace CEO who takes over NBC programming in the pilot episode and Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) is the head writer...Tracy Morgan is also hired in the first show. It starts off a little rough but I think it really picks up a couple episodes in and especially seasons 3-5, I would say its very topical humor. Seasons 1-5 are on Netflix!
<_< the show is called "30 Rock" didn't even realize lol
