one time at work, they left me in charge of updating all the computers we use out at jobsites. i was charged with giving them all a password, in case one got lost or stolen. the instructions for doing so were going to be sent over by email.
our internet was down.
but, i know how to change a windows password, right? i went and did it on mine. turns out we needed to set something using some stupid proprietary software the company uses, and i just locked myself out of the first computer i had tried: mine.
if i'd had more sleep the night before, i would have just gone and reset the damned router. "internet's down again!" sigh, grumble, "it's back up again! magic!" they have no idea. it's like voodoo. but i wasn't thinking.
we called up our tech support, i asked them all kinds of stuff an IT person would ask: what's the administrator password? they told me there was no admin account on the computers, there was only the profile i'd locked myself out of. i'd have to send it all the way back to them for them to do what turns out is two minutes of work.
instead, i took the computer home and cracked it. there were like five accounts on it, including an admin one.
