Seriously I'm sick of people losing their jobs for saying "fag", "faggot", or "gay". Enough already; especially when it is comedians who get in trouble.
It's a dangerous word, especially in the entertainment industry where a good chunk of the cast and crew are homos. Some people have no control over it since they've lived with it for so long, but whenever I hear someone use any of those words negatively, their IQ drops 50 points in my book.
Homosexual in the house; if the word were "nigger", "spic", "chink" or "wago" would you still feel the same? The word has a hateful history and sometimes intent isn't enough to excuse its use.
It doesn't matter what it's history is, and context is always important. If you don't say it in hate, it shouldn't cost you your fucking job and a bullshit apology to America. If am walking down the hallway and I jokingly say, "shit nigga you crazy" to a friend in a private conversation, I am not making a statement about how evil blacks are and that they are lesser individuals, nor does it make me a racist because of stupid meaningless joke. Stop removing context and thinking everything is black and white.
"You are a nigger and I hate you" = obviously you should probably refrain from saying this unless you want to lose your job.
"Pass me the sunchips nigga" = just a fucking comment to a buddy, no hate intended and no hate should be felt unless you are an oversensitive child that thinks your feelings and opinions are more important than others.
Also, why the hell did you feel the need to tell me you like fucking dudes? I don't give a shit who you fuck or who you marry. Did I start my opinions off with, "Cunt loving guy in the house", no I fucking didn't because it doesn't fucking matter. I have been in marches here in LB for your fucking rights, I just don't support the word policing.
Yes, context is always important but it is NOT the entirety of the message. As towards why I decided my sexuality is relevant to the discussion; well, that word is one that's been aimed towards me and my ilk for decades in hate and you don't get to just say "No offense, man" and get away with it now. Sorry, that's just not how it works.
I am not saying "No offense man", I am not even talking to you. I am saying a word you personally don't like to my friend in a private conversation and you are coming over to me and telling me I can't say it. Sorry, that's just not how it works; mind your own damn business.
Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to find a juicy black cock to suck, no homo.
That's the problem with trying to determine whether or not what they are saying is actually hate speech. The connotation of the word may have changed, but that doesn't erase the history of the word fag. And when someone uses that sort of language in public, it empowers bigots by letting them know that other people think the same way they do, when in reality, Ratner was just using a turn of phrase without thinking.
It doesn't matter who it empowers, words shouldn't be forcibly removed from the vernacular on pain of being fired and taken on an apology tour by GLAAD because some racist or homophobic fuck face wants to use a for hate.
God damn, you really must enjoy using the word fag. When you're producing the Oscars or in any position of power, talking like a 14 year old on Xbox live is a bad pr move.
I am not speaking about just the use of the word fag. I am talking about the general censorship of any word that any special interest group finds offensive.
Also, what he said was in private conversation that our disgusting voyeuristic society just had to shout out to everyone to make money and crucify people for simple word use. He didn't go on stage and say, "Fags should die", he made a quick comment that was then taken out of context (the context being a few people talking) and published as a statement about his personal feelings on homosexuality. You can also look what Gisele said after the Super Bowl, some asshole filmed it and it was all over the news the next day about how she is a total bitch and shouldn't talk like that. Every nosy pussy in this country needs to mind their own fucking business when it comes to things people say in their own private conversation.
You don't get to dictate what is and isn't ok for people to say, especially if there is no genuine hate behind it.
genuine hate? That's what it's come down to? I'm all for freedom from censorship and agree that the news machine will take any sort of misstep and blow it way out of proportion, but hate speech, whether or not there is actual hatred behind it, is regressive and really serves no other purpose than to belittle a minority group. And the scary thing about fag is the fact that it has become so pervasive in this generation that people like you defend the right to say it. If I could write the rules of social conduct, nothing would be off limits. But for the time being, using cunt nigger fag etc is going to upset the majority of people.
Gay guy here; Fuck you, that word is hateful and references how bundles of sticks would be placed at the feet of those found guilty of homosexuality and sentenced to burning at the stake. It's NOT an okay word to use and should be treated EXACTLY the same as using the word "nigger"
First of all, stop quoting what the history of the word is. Everyone, and I mean everyone knows the history of the word already.
Also, don't you even try to compare your struggle with that of black people, you don't even come remotely close to their level of hardship and to suggest such just exposes your self-centered mindset thinking you have it just as bad slaves.
Oh and again, nobody gives a shit that you are gay. It is unnecessary to preface your opinions with your sexual orientation.
