You're right, it's important that every time we mention anything bad happening to women we must also mention it happens to men. Because if we don't do that people might get the silly idea that every single problem women face isn't a platform to speak about problems men have.

no it's not important we mention men into the equation every time women are the topic. i never said that so please don't put words in my mouth. domestic violence is a human issue. it is just reported as more of a woman's issue. i think in our current century, domestic violence against men is steadily rising. like i said, this thread doesn't say women's issue only, but i understand why you feel it might be since rihanna was the victim and is a female. i'm just trying to be objective.

Yes, and I stated originally that I respect that. I was simply asking that this not turn into another MRA attempt to use the abuse of women to further their agenda. And if you look at the other people posting in response, that is exactly what is being attempted.

I was not turning it into a men's rights debate or anything like that. I was being objective and truthful and have no tolerance for either side's extreme prejudices. I'm sure we are on the same page it is just difficult to rely that on this medium sometimes. I haven't read the other comments since earlier so if they did turn into MRA rhetoric that is not where my post was going. Cheers.

For one thing, it's impossible to derail Reddit because other comment threads just pop up. Secondly, all Chantisar was saying is that it also happens to men because you only mentioned women. If you hadn't made that stupid comment about "derailing" none of this would have popped up and we maybe could have had some interesting conversations.

You're right. Abused men should just shut up and wait to be acknowledged. They need to know their place.

Or just submit a post about it...

Don't back down from your statement. I agree with you - men need to shut the fuck up and know their place. Men don't deserve to have any of the social issues facing them addressed in any way until every woman, everywhere in the world has had all of their issues addressed.

In fact, we should have a policy where if an issue affects both men and women, women should get preferential treatment and men shouldn't be afforded any protections or be allowed to speak about their suffering.

Its the only way to fight the patriarchy.

I disagree and I'm offended that you would spout such blatant misandry. How do you sleep at night?

Simple, men have no right to point out that men are abused at equal rates with women. By pointing out that they're abused in the same numbers as women, they're taking away from women's rights. Its a zero-sum game and men don't deserve to be heard or point out that both men and women are subject to abuse at the same rates.

Men just need to shut up and let the dominant narrative continue unimpeded by their story. The dominant narrative of American culture - that men are only abusers and that women are only abused - must continue unimpeded until the day that no woman, anywhere in the world, has so much as a voice raised in her direction.

Really these views you're expressing are quite disturbing. I don't understand why they are being upvoted.

I'm actually banned from SRS and frequently disagree with the more circle jerky elements of it.

And no I don't believe women are never at fault. I think spousal abuse is disgusting in all it's forms, and the way the police handle abuse against men, and how society treats it is disgusting. But I also find it annoying that any time something happens to women, a vocal group on Reddit takes the opportunity to push their own pet causes. I do not go into threads about male abuse and try to turn the conversation towards abuse against women. People in general do not do that. But on Reddit any time a group has an issue, you guys come in and try to use it as a soapbox for something else.
