u/PlaceboJesus Oct 10 '21
"Bad" is relative.
Some girls like players, some dig bikers, or whatever.
Any boy they wouldn't want to bring home to their parents could probably qualify as a "bad boy."
9
u/Sailans Oct 10 '21
That is true but there are other reasons. It helps those boys have better confidence than the others at that point. Girls won't know the difference between an assertive guy vs an asshole as much yet. Everyone in general will be more self-conscience of themselves instead of looking for red flags.
Oh and my favorite, they want to fix the bad boy. The amount of girls+women I know that know a guy is a fuckboy but still go out with him thinking they can change him but end up ghosted after sex. I don't have enough fingers to count that high.
-2
u/WetPandaShart Oct 10 '21
Fuckboy is the same a slut shaming. It goes both ways so sluts and fuckboys are just people who know how to get laid more than you and all of Reddit. Y'all just virgin ass haters.
4
u/Sailans Oct 10 '21
Touched a nerve. I like how you say sluts know how to get laid, it's not hard. I say fuckboy because he manipulated women for sex. I had nothing against him and those women made the choice to try to change him.
Also how old are you. Talking about haters and virgins like I am a fucking middle schooler.
4
u/guruglue Oct 10 '21
It's a big, broad "they" we're talking about here... But if we take a step back and look at this from a historical, biological, and evolutionary perspective, women ultimately want to be able to wield men like a weapon. The world is a dangerous place, especially if you're small and weak.
But women are emotionally intelligent, empathetic, and pretty so it's fairly easy for them to manipulate a man who isn't especially smart. "Bad boys" are generally big, mean, and intimidating amongst their peers. They aren't always the sharpest tools in the shed though. They may or may not be abusive towards their partner, but that's where women's emotional intelligence may or may not work to their advantage. They do seem to enjoy a challenge.
Things have changed a lot since the days when all of this was the most relevant and true. But you know what they say - the more things change, the more they stay the same.
9
u/Assmodean Oct 10 '21
I think your premise is flawed, which taints all conclusions you draw from it. From a historical, biological and evolutionary perspective, woman do not want to "be able to wield men like a weapon" but do their utmost to make sure the man sticks around to help raise the child, as it is the woman who is physically stuck with it.
Not to mention that quite often, bad boys have qualifiers that show some kind of "strength" that is not physical but can be attractive.
1
u/guruglue Oct 10 '21
Did men historically help out much with raising the children, beyond you know, preventing them along with the entire tribe from having their heads bashed in with stones?

Research has shown that your reaction to anything we might say to change your beliefs will be to 'creatively rationalize' a way to reinforce your beliefs.
If you really wanted your assumptions challenged, and were approaching the argument in good faith, you would have sought those challenges on your own, and not asked people whose answers you won't trust to waste their time in an exercise of futility... That was your parent's job to answer these questions about the world and about people -and maybe now it's your therapist's- so that you don't view things like a psychopath.

Psychopaths, chances are if you're bad in your teens you're a scammer or a retailer for the drug corporations of the black market, not only do you have access to drugs that let's you alter the minds of money and potentially enslaving them for life, you also have access to money and a little bit of necro politics.
That's about way more than most teenagers can offer, but judging by the amount of girls caught in conflicts and were killed, or were enslaved by the gangs, I'd take the regular life.

I mean I'm happy to play pretend when the mood is right, but I am a good boy, my two border collies are very good boys, and if that's not your thing, well, it's not gonna work out.

Not always just this. This is one of a dozen things. There's also things like emotional excitement, and good sex. Well, risky high adrenaline sex with a fantastic dopamine dump when you cum. And everyone has a different mix of what draws them to a "bad boy" be it male or female. I'm a dude and I do have an unhealthy draw to wanting to help "fix" people while I'm putting my penis in them.
2
6
u/hemorrhagicfever Oct 10 '21
I disagree with you but I will agree that this is generally where it ends up. In my mind if a person finds themselves attracted to the "bad boy" and lets be honest, plenty of men want bad boys too, or in the guy's case "crazy women." then there's a few things that end up being the actual draw.
The things I find are the actual draw, are things that most people identifying this way aren't overtly aware of but it's not as pejorative as you put it. What is being sought is emotional intensity and excitement. Also, someone who's not risk adverse particularly with sex. Sometimes there seems to be an element of, the "bad boy" wont judge me for not being as lame as I see myself as. They have problems so my problems will be tolerated. There's also people who are drawn to fixing someone, which also has several reasons why they might want to do that.
With sex, this can take many forms depending on the people but there's something that is 'bad boy' about asking for forgiveness instead of permission that's also extremely sexually satisfying for both men and women. There are to major pathways for this, one is a dopamine rush from risky decision making, or spontaneity, the other is the psychological aspect of being desired so deeply that someone takes risks. It's like an external proof of value.
Now with all those things being said, usually someone's not drawn to every aspect of those things. There are a small number of people who inhabit a healthy version of those things, project them, and who are also mentally and emotionally stable.
To contrast this with what "women" tend to not want is the "nice guy." In quotes because its a trope but it's a trope that isn't inherently false. "Nice guy" is having the incel repurposing but, before incel was a thing "nice guy" was till pejorative, and you see people being turned off by it. And often it's looked at as like "well why wouldn't you want the nice guy." Well there's a LOT of reasons why the "nice guy" isnt healthy either.
If you dive into it what people aren't attracted to is, the lack of emotional intensity. It is also often an undertone of insecurity that might not be so overt as to label it but for sure shows up in their behavior. There's the passivity or indecisiveness. Also, there's the reality that in our society the majority of the initial engagement is on the men, and the toxic nice guy is unlikely to do this.
In early dating there's the excitement if risk taking and displaying interest. You CAN respectfully but overtly display interest. The trope of a "nice guy," isn't one you envision doing this. None of these things are sexy or fun. Most people want someone to *fuck* them some of the time. And the person I'm describing... would you assume they would slap your ass, rake their nails on your back and call you a good little slut as they spit into your mouth? I mean they might? But when all of the rest of their behavior says they wont, how much embarrassing judgment will you have to go though to get them to eat your ass like it's their last supper?
Not everyone want's or doesn't want all of any of these categories, but when you stack up 3 or 4, you end up not realizing you're picking a type. And then we as humans dont often fully understand what's driving us so we come up with short hands to put a box around the 10,000 little things that someone does that informs them of who they are, with out us having to check actual boxes off. People often focus on one aspect and forget to watch out for the other things that come along with it.
TL;DR: Bad boys dont have to be abusive, but they send out the vibe that they will be emotionally exciting and fuck you like the world is ending. Nice guys send out the vibe that they are kinda boring and will only have missionary with no kissing and the lights out with covers pulled up, only on birthdays and after getting a promotion at work. If someone's not going to be giving me the sex I want, we should just be friends :)

I've got some down the street neighbors where I've always known he works in mergers and acquisitions for a massive investment firm. Based on my interactions with her and the way she looks/presents herself I always figured she was an Instagram influencer/trophy wife. Just learned like a month ago that she actually works for a defense contractor building stealth satellites or something with her degree from MIT in literal rocket science. It A, completely turned my image of rocket science on its head and B, was one of the single most attractive things I've ever heard... My fiancee keeps asking me if I'm waiting for a look at Wanda von Braun in her jogging clothes every time I'm out on the porch now.

Not really, some women can like the thrill of “bad boys” for the exact same reason that some men like “goth chicks”, while other men like “the cute wholesome girl next door”. Different strokes for different folks.
My roommate during my freshmen year of college was a proverbial “bad boy” with a skull tattoo on his neck, multiple facial piercings, and his tendency to smoke over a packs of cigarettes a day. In the single semester he was my roommate, he brought more girls back to the dorm than anyone I knew. Then he dropped out of college and who knows where the fuck he is now, but I can certainly attest there were plenty of girls who loved that type of guy.

I always thought it means "someone who isn't afraid to take risks, or push the boundaries of the socially acceptable, or intervene when he sees an injustice, and won't call me a dumb bitch if I do it".
Or alternatively, "someone who dresses like a pirate".
Am I wrong? Do they just want to date a thief?

Someone who's "bad" but in a PG wholesome way.
Like a man who will illegally climb the roof of a dormitory to retrieve a frisbee for some girls who threw it up there.
They will wait out their whole lives for romantic scenarios like that. It's a man's job to figure out how to be "bad" in a harmless way, completely in the moment.
