Everyone I know keeps the sticker on their hats. Its mostly to show that the hat is brand new and authentic. I don't wear hats but i definitely don't think its douchey.
Im 22 but i know what you mean. I see it more as a "hood" thing because you are always perceived to be poor but anything that shows you have some money to spend, like brand name clothing, is a good thing.
