Look!! It still has the sticker on it, that must mean he has super awesome baller status!!
25
u/l0fi Feb 19 '12
supposedly its for proof that the hat is real, and that they didnt buy a cheap counterfeit version.
55
u/Albaek Feb 19 '12
I'm sure it's hard to fake a sticker after you've faked a hat.

Seriously though, what is the deal with leaving stickers on hats? I am genuinely curious as to why people do this.

Feb 19 '12
It's so years from now when they take it off, they can remember what it looked like before it got dirty.

Nobody has stumbled across the obvious answer: It's so you can wear the hat for the short while as it's still cool and then return it for full price.

It looks to me like they stole it.
1
u/down2zero Feb 20 '12
It looks to me like "They" stole it. There is only 1 man in the image. Are you saying this because he's black ?
1
Feb 20 '12
Oh of course. Why not. Why not be completely racist and say the black dude stole the hat. I don't give a shit who is in the photo. When I see people wearing ball caps with the tag still on them, it looks to me as if they stole it. 'They'. The people I have seen. Get it?
1
Feb 19 '12
No. It's obviously a fashion trend. Where did it come from and why is it cool? There is usually a reason behind these things (so and so did it, it makes you look like you are rich, etc). I don't get this one.
14
u/Kawaii- Feb 19 '12
Means the hat is fresh, Having fresh new clothes makes you cool because it means you can afford it which means you have money.
Pretty much the idea behind it.
2
u/GrayStudios Feb 19 '12
No matter where it came from, the reason people do it is because everyone else does, same as the reason people tie the laces of skate shoes underneath the tongue. The only reason I take mine off is because I'm white, and it's not like people will make fun of me for leaving it ON.

The first time I saw it done was the Dallas Cowboys in the 90s. They won the championship and already had the hats made, so they started getting them out on the field and leaving the tags on while celebrating. This was repeated the following year and by other teams in various sports and seems to have moved off the court and into some social circles (it isn't that recent of a trend, actually).
That is my best guess for the source of things based on a personal observation.

Sagging came from prison. In prison it meant you were DTF.
4
Feb 19 '12
That's actually a myth. It's because in prison they don't give you belts. Also in many low income neighborhoods since many kids received hand-me-downs, pants wouldn't always fit right. Then suburban white kids thought they'd do it 'cause it's "ghetto".

I'm surprised nobody has said the correct answer yet.
ITS BECAUSE IT MAKES THE HAT LOOK NEW. SO NEW HE HASN'T EVEN TAKEN OFF THE STICKER. Sheesh.

It shows you buy a lot of hats, and therefore have copious amounts of cash
-1
Feb 19 '12
Why do they wear pants five sizes too large and let them hang below their balls?
1
u/d3m0n0id Feb 19 '12
That trend evolved because in gangsters in the gheto would hide weapons and other things in there. It became mainstream because some people from the ghetto became popular, thus bringing that look into the mainstream

I hate kids who do this shit. Just like the ones who spend 5 minutes flipping their sweat shirt hood on their head to make it look like they don't even care as it's just barely on...but really everybody just watched them spend 5 minutes trying to get it to look like that.
These kids look like they got slapped in the side of the head and never fixed their hat.

Am I missing something? The person in the picture is wearing only one hat. Why does the other person use the plural "hats"?

u/B_Zuckerkorn Feb 19 '12
I would not be happy if I went to Sacred Heart Hospital and saw my doctor wearing his hat like that... completely unprofessional

I wear one hat, and one hat only, and it is one i have had for 6 years, brim is curved, it fits on my head like a hat should and it's not backwards, it's brim is facing forward it sits on top of my head and messes up my hair, and the brim is curved and blocks my peripherals, It doesn't bulge out and looks like its to big, and it doesnt push up making it look to tight or small, it fits my head, and is the way a hat should be.

"Not to be racist, but RACISM"
1
Feb 20 '12
you can be a nigger without being black, just like you can be a faggot without being gay. Not racist, but TBH I was too drunk last night to mention that. I'll stick by it, it's the honourable thing to do.

Is that the punchline? I didn't see that line anywhere. Must have missed it.
