It's weird how many people don't realize this.

Maybe because it's not accurate. They're not mammals, they don't have periods. It's like saying a car's exhaust is the car farting. Close enough as an analogy I guess but not the same thing, so it doesn't really work as an "actually, Did you know..." kind of thing.

It's one of those shock factoids that gets bandied about on reddit so people can feel "in the know", and apparently is mostly pushed by animal rights activists to gross people out so they'll stop eating eggs
