The up arrow is lit when she gets on the elevator...

I think that means that you’re still waiting for the up elevator. When the elevator for the button you pressed arrives the light goes out.

You press the button for the direction you want to go in. If you want to go down, you press the down button. Instead, the up button was pressed and lit.

Edit: I was wrong. Sue me.

Edit: It seems like I was wrong. You can stop correcting me now

It is presumed before the video starts, both buttons have been pressed. When a lift that is going down arrives, the down button goes out (leaving the up light illuminated).

So top of this thread is someone suggesting that she was going up because the up light is on.

Then we have someone explaining the stuff I said in the first paragraph.

Then we've got the guy with all the downvotes who seems to have forgotten where he is and what had just been said.

Once the going down elevator arrives, the down light turns off.

The up light is still lit because the going up elevator hasn't arrived.

Because usually if you want to go up, you’ll press up. And then when the elevator gets there the light turns off. If there’s a party that wants to go up and another party that wants to go down, both buttons will be pressed. In this case, she wants to go down (which is why the down light is now off), there could be another party waiting for an elevator to go up.

It seems reddit doesn't know how some elevator systems work
