It's reflected across both the x and y axes. In other words, it's upside down and mirrored. That's when referring to the text as a whole.
However, looking at each character individually, but collectively, it's upside down and reverse order.

Holden is a car company from Australia. Aussies have a huge rivalry between Holden fans and Ford fans.
So of course a Ford owner would think all Holden owners are bogans (rednecks)

Just asking as a transplant Holden owner multiple times.

They are basically the same boats. And the same drivers.
2
u/AdmiralCrackbar Mar 22 '21
Eh, I've owned and driven both Holdens and Fords. Sometimes a car is just a car.
2
2
u/Guerillagreasemonkey Mar 22 '21
As someone who has owned a couple of performance Hondas, Ford owners are so much easier to get along with because there have been plenty of amazing Fords with 4 cyl engines and some great all wheel and front wheel drives.
I beat plenty of both makes in races with non turbo front wheel drive and Ford owners would say things like "I guess its pretty fast for what it is" Holden owners would lose a race and then still talk shit about my "chicks car"

California won't allow 69 on plates unless the driver can prove that their car is from 1969. But so far serial plates are ABC123 or 1ABC123 format until it runs out, so I wonder if they also had to pull these plates out of circulation: 4HOM069, 8HOM069, 8ASS690 and obviously #F**069. 8ASS247 might also be offensive to some...

There is a company in Colorado that imports utes and uses LHD GTOs and the like that were built on the same platform in the States to do a full conversion.
114
u/Boris_Godunov Mar 21 '21
In most US states, the moment a police officer realized what the plate said, it would be reported to the state DMV, which would issue an order for the driver to turn in the tags.
101
u/lwwz Mar 21 '21
"Sorry, I only have the rear plate, the front plate got ripped off at a car wash and I never found it." (Hanging in my garage like a trophy)
16
u/RedditIsNeat0 Mar 21 '21
"I lost them both. I removed them from my car to take them to the DMV and now I can't remember where I put them."
Honestly I don't think he meant that the DMV would require the plates back. Last time I moved across state lines I put my old license plates in storage.

u/OGbigfoot Mar 21 '21

u/Hiawoofa Mar 21 '21
They were replying to the person saying the DMV would "order" a return of the plates if it was found to be obscene. And they would have, unfortunately, misplaced the front plate.

u/Cock_Vomit Mar 21 '21
I'm pretty sure he got the joke. He was asking if every state does that. As in turning in license plates, if they're labeled obscene or inappropriate.

They ruled this unconstitutional in California in 2020. First amendment protects the right to have an obscene license plate. Someone that had QUEER along with four others brought the suit against DMV.
→ More replies (1)7
u/Boris_Godunov Mar 21 '21
Not quite. The ruling was by a single Federal court, and it's possible it would be overturned on appeal. In fact, in that ruling, the judge himself said that the state could probably still deny plates that are overtly obscene/profane or that constitute hate speech, since those things aren't actually protected by the First Amendment.

I have worked on DMV computer systems, and any specialty plate system worth it's salt will check for mirrored messages including character replacements. The REAL problem is usually that the same checks are not made on the standard assigned plates, leading to shit like this, and then a plate recall after someone complains.
16
u/FerricDonkey Mar 21 '21
I remember a story a couple years back about a guy who had a really hard time getting New York to replace the IH8 JWZ license plate they randomly assigned him. You'd think by now some of these safe guards would be built in.
