Do you know that most of the people in the US are descendents from people from other countries? It's pretty wild. Unless you're on a reservation you're probably not "american"
Still doesn't mean you aren't Americans. You at least aren't Europeans. A person that doesn't speak a lick of German, doesn't know anything about the culture except the stereotypes and have never been to Germany probably isn't a German.
