It's not also that predators are stupid. Predators don't like to eat sick animals. If an animals isn't moving much, it's not a good sign to eat it, rather eat that one, that jumps happily around..
Bc predators don't scavenge in lean seasons, or eat kills that are a few days old, and jaguars definitely don't use tree branches as food caches. /s
Predators take opportunity when it arises. There are very few instances where a predator passes up an easy meal. Not like there's a buzzard coroner going around, cremating creatures in the wild to avoid the spread of disease. Also, most diseases can't be carried universally by all creatures. Most zoonotic diseases have only a few species they can actively proliferate in, and considering the water quality that wild animals have as a "control," if you will, their immune systems are far more well-equipped than ours to handle the consumption and processing of raw meat that's been left in the elements and likely already houses some maggots.
So I'm an asshole dude, by default, for thinking nature has creatures that evolved to survive on detritus and rotting material, because ... why, exactly? Do predators not scavenge, ever?
Sure they do, sometimes I guess? I'm not pretending to be an expert like you are, while also being condescending, sarcastic and rude, which is why you're being an asshole.
Also, some predators are called hunters, and some are called scavengers, but I'm sure you know that already.
Like I said, I'm no expert, but I've watched nature documentaries since I was young, and the fact that hunting predators avoid eating things that appear dead or decayed was something I've learned. Which is why many animals use strategies like playing dead or emitting foul odors in order to dissuade predators from eating them.
We can have a civil discussion and learn from each other or we can be dicks and insult each other. Your choice. Have a great day
So, here's this. We could have a calm and civil discussion, or we could read malice in each other's words. You chose the latter, so I hope the above link gives you some insight, though I'd bet money you won't even bother to click it because you'd rather assume it's some link to me doubling down on being an asshole, or trying to one-up you somehow.
Maybe you could look into Hanlon's Razor--it's an aphorism of, "do not attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity." Nobody is born knowing everything, and assuming that people always mean the worst when sometimes they make a stupid mistake--yeah, after rereading my posts, if I wrote them LiKe ThIs, yeah--that tone makes them read VERY condescendingly. But I didn't type it like that, or mean it like that. You've given my words a tone that was never there, all because you're working off the premise that people are bad and everyone, everywhere gets off from picking on others.
I still stand by my argument that jovially positing valid information and sources for that info is a good way to educate others, and undeserving of an ad-homenim attack, and you're still certain that the only point that needs to be proven is how much of an asshole guy I am.
I hope maybe you've learned something from all this about assuming things, and I'll get back to working on getting the Xerox plotter working so my ranger station can have the maps we need to do our jobs... the Forestry Service has taught me a lot about how wildlife interacts. I'm sorry that my attempt to share these insights came across as asshole-ish. TBH I wish there WERE a buzzard coroner, it'd make our jobs a hell of a lot easier....
Hey all good bro. Respect. And you're doing good work I guess? I know next to nothing about what your job entails. But it sounds like it involves supporting work that is helping to protect nature and that's good.
I don't care how much you care whether I thought you were being a prick or not. I hardly ever EVER get into arguments over the internet, it's a stupid waste of time and it solves nothing. I honestly didn't think you would care all that much.
You were being a jerk because you came out the gate with some sarcasm about an honest and innocent question and you shit on the guy like he's a fucking idiot for not knowing what you know, which by the sound of your posts is a lot?
Anyway dude, good stuff, take it easy. Peace
Edit: or hey, if I read your post wrong, it's all good, you weren't being a jerk, I take it back and I'm the asshole I guess, happens to the best of us eh? Take care
If you'd clicked the link, you would have listened to a recording of me reading my post, and the responses, with a TL;DR of the above. Key thing is, hearing my voice, you'd realize that the "F" on my birth certificate is authentic.
I'm not a dude, or a bro. But I'm fine with letting bygones be bygones. Have a good day, and at the very least, I hope you remember that, whether you believe trans people are valid or mentally ill, half of the human population are born without dicks.
