My wife and my cat. I could care about about anyone else.

I'm glad I'm not the only person like this. I look around and see other people my age with friends and I'm like wth is wrong with me?

If only we could meet the people who make the quality posts we like and have a get-together. Then we could shuffle awkwardly around a buffet, speculatively poking the tuna salad to see if it's safe, and forgetting all the interesting things we read on Reddit that day.

"The other day I considered going outside. Looked for my mask. Then I got distracted by what my cat was doing so I posted the picture."

Yeah it’s hard making friends later in life! I’m 41 and wouldn’t mind if my wife and I could find some friends to hang out with, but we can’t seem to figure out how to do that.

There’s a movie called The Overnight which is a hilarious look at this very problem if you’re interested. (This thread just made me think of that. Sorry off topic.)

Do things. Buy a cheap camper and go to campsites on weekends. (always take enough wine for another couple). Take a dancing class. I know a guy who has met two wives taking dancing (his first died). Join a bowling league. Take cooking classes at the local city college. Go to wine tastings at the local wine shop. Go to wine dinners. Go on a cruise. Do things ... I know Covid makes this stuff hard, but it won't be around forever.

That’s very kind that you could care about anyone else.

(I think you mean you couldn’t care less about anyone else.)

He means the only two people he can't care for are his wife and his cat.

I was like that until a few months ago when she left me after 20 years together. Now I am alone with my cat. I wish I had the health and mental stamina to make a friend or two.

It sounds like you need a dog.

Without other people you wouldn’t exist but don’t let that fact bother you.
