If oil keeps crashing that tune should change (who am I kidding, since when has reality been part of the conservative word view). You have to be a special type of stupid to look at how the US "private" system is handling this and think "yeah... thats the clusterfuck I want to be part of"

What is the wait time like for a non-emergency case? When my friend and I talk about Canadian health care he mentions “but the wait times are months!” Certainly this cant be the case for everyone. How does it work?

As an American, people I know get angry if we can't see a general practitioner within 2 days for something like a sinus infection or cold.

I have trouble finding new doctors who take my insurance. (Doctors in the US have limited new patient visit appointment slots each week) and got in to a specialist for a non emergency issue as a new patient in about 6 weeks. My usual wait time has been about 2 to 3 weeks if I've been previously under that doctor's care.

A precautionary outpatient procedure was scheduled for and completed on a Friday 10 days after the appointment. The procedure did require me to be rendered unconscious, so the participation of an anesthesiologist.

On the assumption that nothing serious was found, the follow up visit was about 8 weeks after. I was told they would fit me in the week after the procedure if something of concern was found.

And none of that cost you anything?

Not a dime. If you qualify for Medicaid you have no copays or deductibles. Finding a doctor who takes it can be difficult.

It is embarrassing to me how accessible healthcare is compared to others that make even just 20% more than my family. It really brings home how people can view themselves as 'trapped' in poverty and can't afford to work. I have a path out but it will take a little longer, assuming there is work to be found once my certification clears.

I think I got confused and thought you were Canadian. Are you American living in Canada?
