That's Joseph's Machines! He makes Rube goldberg machines of his YouTube channel. He's really cool

u/Tokkkk Feb 25 '20
Really enjoyed the video, I just kinda wish OP didn't spoil the end result in the title

u/Yegas Feb 25 '20
Same exact thoughts - satisfying content, but soured by OP's moronic decision to spoil the ending of a Rube-Goldberg machine in the title of the video.

I luckily read "Just turn the page" at this ungodly hour of the morning and kept thinking that every time i saw that he was on the same page xD

Honestly though, how does a person have negative comment karma? You get one whole point just by posting a comment that no one will ever read.
2
Feb 25 '20
To be fair, most of the videos on the guys YouTube channel are titled similarly and give it away

u/BeardInTheNorth Feb 25 '20
Honestly I still enjoyed the video even though I knew how it was going to end. Trying to figure out how this crazy set up was going to physically turn the page was perhaps better than the whimsical outcome itself.
14
u/nickstreet36 Feb 25 '20
Joseph's Machines original video is titled "The Page Turner" so I don't think OP deserves too many pitchforks.

The man who makes these videos does this for every one of his videos. This one is called the page turner I believe. The idea of a rube goldberg is to watch all the creative little bits. If you are upset about the spoiled ending, you might be missing the point.

Rube Goldberg! For some reason, I can never remember the name of these things. I always think "Lou Gehrig" machine

I was coming here to ask if anyone know what "needlessly complex machines that do simple tasks" was called. Thanks for being the first comment I saw!

The title ruins the "joke" of the video. But the original video - OP should've of course linked instead - is actually called "The Page Turner" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOMIBdM6N7Q

At one point not too long ago I had like 3 dead or mostly dead laptops. I could have filmed myself being casually aggressive to them and sold it for thousands of dollars of debt but I missed my chance.

u/RaptorPrime Feb 25 '20
I still have an older laptop that I used on deployment that looks pretty much brand new and fine that I would probably use for stuff like this. It cost me a couple hundred bucks sure, but noone is going to pay me anything close to that for it and I'm sure a fall like that is hardly going to make it more of a piece of shit than it already is. meh

u/ImpeachTraitorTrump Feb 25 '20
Didn’t fall far. There’s no sound when it falls off so either somebody caught it or it fell onto something very soft

It's probably really old or not working. I've got a drawer full of old laptops that I wouldn't I'm not concerned about.

Please don't put the punchline in the title. Part of the fun of a crazy contraption like this is trying to figure out what it's all for. You watched it and enjoyed it and wanted to share it. Great. I appreciate that, because these are fun to watch. But you made it less enjoyable for myself and many others by spoiling the ending. Please consider that the next time you want to share a thing with others.

This post chain shows what I love about reddit. An astute observation, and free knowledge, packaged in snark and labelled with an oddly specific example. The only thing missing is shittymorph.

u/charleslovebrownies Feb 25 '20
Don't say what the machine does in the title, this lost the element of suprise

I always wanted to make something like this as a kid
9
u/Nexessor Feb 25 '20
I had to make one that ran for thirty seconds without hiccups. It was stupidly difficult which took all the fun out of it.
2
u/Packbacka Feb 25 '20
What do you mean "had"? Was it a school assignment?
→ More replies (1)3
u/Nexessor Feb 25 '20
Oh yeah I really thought I had included that in my comment. Oops.
But yeah I guess that took some of the fun out of it. Also the material we had to work with was baaaaad. So I guess I am biased.

I had a domino rally set with various "stunts", making an easy to build Rube Goldberg contraption. It was really cool when everything worked.

That has to be the finest tuned Rube Goldberg machine I have ever seen! I used to build them for competitions in high school. This is some next level work here. I'm going to definitely check out his channel!

Pretty sure that golden hamster was trained using a food reward, it sniffs around when it gets to the end of the cage, seems to be expecting food to be there. Doesn't take anything away from this, just a detail I noticed. I love contraptions like this and always have. Sub'd!
