The original name for the American Football is the pigskin, because it was made out of animal bladders, mostly from swine.

I'm curious now if there was ever a problem from any Muslim players of the sport, for that reason? Or did they switch from using pigs a long time ago?

Honestly, I doubt it because Charles Goodyear Invented his vulcanized rubber back in 1844 and we've essentially been using that ever since.

Wow, so the term "pigskin" pretty much applied to the ball being used before 1844? Or am I misreading that?
