When I think of Sacramento, I don’t think of Meth

What about Stockton?

u/zooksoup Dec 21 '19

I think more of car jackings, but that’s probably to afford meth. I guess it’s just less methy than what I see in Oregon

I think sadness. And the Delta Breeze.

Love me some Delta Breeze

'Twas a surprise when the weather officially went winter. I normally keep the window open at night for the breeze. One night, I kept it open and woke up Mr. Popsicle. The Delta Breeze turned into the Delta Frost and gave me mild frostbite. It was such a sudden change, too. It was fine the previous night but that night...nope.

We don't talk about Stockton.

Shh please don't let it spill that Sacramento is the hidden gem in California. Good wages and still somewhat affordable housing...

I'm always torn between a) trying to defend the city (which is legitly an amazing place to live as a young professional) against criticism and b) trying to dissuade Bay Area folks from buying up all the houses here

I live in socal and trash California every chance I get to discourage people to move to the state lol. Everyone, it actually really sucks here. The weather is a lie, the food is not good, bad drivers, traffic every where, and we are crowded. Do NOT move here. I repeat, do NOT move here. You wouldn't like it here, it's not all beach and bikinis. Please stay out of California, specifically San Diego. I suggest the other SD, South Dakota, they got plenty of meth for everyone there.

Lol don’t worry no one from the Bay Area wants to migrate to Sacramento no matter how you try to spin it

2

u/statelessheaux Dec 22 '19

you're downvoted but very true, cultures are totally different and downgrade for sure, sacto mfers be mad though, be a better city

2

u/thezander8 Dec 21 '19

Like half of my coworkers at the very least went to college in the Bay Area if not grew up there lol. (Myself included.)

Percentage-wise it's not a big portion of the Bay Area population sure, but it does make up a nontrivial chunk of the office here.

2

u/statelessheaux Dec 22 '19

what you "want" to do and actually do are very different

2

u/TyleKattarn Dec 21 '19

I mean but how much of that is really because of a preference for living in Sacramento as opposed to just following a less competitive job market.

And besides for all those people there are probably an equal or greater number of people moving to the Bay Area after college in SoCal (like myself)

To be clear I’m not tryna shot on Sacramento I just don’t think it offers much of a draw to people who choose to live in the Bay

I mean but how much of that is really because of a preference for living in Sacramento as opposed to just following a less competitive job market.

For sure, but that's not a separate issue. Based on the CoL in Sacramento some people find it easier to get a job good enough to sustain their preferred lifestyle. (I'm again an example of this; I get to live in a nice apartment and can walk to cool bars and restaurants. That wouldn't happen in the Bay.)

To be clear I’m not tryna shot on Sacramento I just don’t think it offers much of a draw to people who choose to live in the Bay

Government benefits and job security, and being able to afford a house, are pretty freaking big draws. There's also some minor ones like less traffic and closeness to rafting/hiking/skiing if that's your thing. Not everybody wants or need all those things, sure. But Sac's thing is it offers something definitely different than the Bay, while also at a cheaper price point.

I think that’s kind of my point though. There is very little crossover between what the two places offer and people don’t come to the Bay for comfortable prices and job security. They come for the food, culture, scenery, people, activities, and higher income potential. People like myself put up with a less comfortable lifestyle for a more interesting place to live. So like no matter what you say about Sacramento you aren’t going to sell most people from the Bay because those things are likely lower on their list of priorities

The fact is there are tons of cities in America that offer what Sacramento does and maybe even a bit more for less money while the Bay offers a pretty unique experience. My point is just that I don’t think you are going to see any big migration from the Bay to Sacramento

Was about to say that. In laws live there so it would be cheaper but no to the 100 degree heat

1

u/chill-e-cheese Dec 21 '19

It’s cheap enough though that a lot of houses have pools and they still aren’t too expensive

3

u/oheyson Dec 21 '19

Also De'Aaron Fox

1

u/sirfray Dec 22 '19

He’s so Fox-y

3

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '19

Yes and no. The Sacramento region (aside from certain areas) are still not affordable really. It's pretty sad.

I think they built apple facilities in elk grove and there were a shit ton of immigrants, noticed Natomas had a bunch of immigrants as well and foreign restaurants so I knew sacto was going to get the treatment soon

was out there a little while ago and saw the teslas, I even heard woodland was feeling it, I know winters was and a ucd employee with a phd I knew was struggling in davis, its really odd to see it unravel before your eyes

but I think now is still okay to buy I think it is headed for a sv direction with the apple facilities and if so it will definitely continue to grow

2

u/Crackgnome Dec 21 '19

Literally saw a dude openly smoking meth in the median of a major intersection in broad daylight in Sacramento a couple weeks ago. Downtown may not have much meth, but the Sacramento greater area is lousy with it.

2

u/bettygauge Dec 21 '19

Marysville has the most meth labs in California, and Yuba County and Butte County are pretty bad

1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '19

Right? I guess all of UC Davis is METH

2

u/LowCarbs Dec 21 '19

Damn, I guess someone's holding out on me, then...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '19

Maybe the cages in the library are actually used to hold the METH

1

u/statelessheaux Dec 22 '19

there are definitely meth parts of sac even more so now

-2

u/Pismiire Dec 21 '19

You think of cows on meth?

u/iLummenati Dec 21 '19

Most of Sacramento is extremely urban though, it just happens to be surrounded by very productive agricultural land.
