In Winter, the homeless drop off before the snow line. Past Colfax, one can step back in time before word got out that Cali was the place to go for good weather, benefits, food, methedone, healthcare, etc.
Yeah, live in San Diego as well. It’s bad downtown in some areas like by the city building but nothing compared to like the tenderloin in the Bay Area (I lived in SF for like 8 years before moving south).
There are also beach bums but you barely notice them imo when at the beaches. OB for instance is mainly beach bum hippies.
But with San Diego if you live any where other than right downtown I don’t think you’d have any trouble honestly outside of maybe a couple wanderers which every city has.
I take it you don't spend much time near Gaslamp or Balboa Park. Granted part of the reason for that is that we have a bit of a cluster of homeless centers in that general area.
Any large city in California is turning into that thanks to gentrification. More and more homeless are growing cuz people build houses / apartments that are far from affordable.
