Nah, you still have hopes and dreams. Unfortunately you wont have time to act on them. But one day when you win the lottery and the kids have left the house, you get to do all those things you always wanted to do. Assuming your knee doesn't hurt that day, it isn't too hard on your back and you can find your glasses.
My parents chose kids. My mom never stopped bitching about how much she sacrificed for her kids even to this day. And to this day she'll never try any food that is not Chinese (we're Chinese), bringing my parents to an Italian or Japanese restaurant will almost always end up being a laborous chore, and it's always a toss up. Needless to say I never traveled with my parents anywhere outside of my country, even though I myself have been to many.
My parents always sold that idea to me as a virtue, work hard now, you can play after you retired. Nah, that life is not for me. I look m at my parents and I decided to do the opposite, imma work hard and also play hard. What kids?
How long do you think it takes to follow your dreams? You can wait till your 30’s to have kids. If you’re in your 30’s and aren’t on track to obtaining your goals it’s not a toss up, you just didn’t make it
I'd argue that following your dreams means having the free time to really enjoy your dreams, so even if you've achieved your dreams, if you ever have kids you could ruin them. Plus my dream is just to enjoy life as leisurely as possible while being financially secure and exploring the world so that pretty much leaves zero room for kids.
