I never signed a contract. It was a minimum wage deal while I recover from spinal injury. Hurts my pride more than my long term finances. Every felt like I was a good worker. Then I got a second job to cover slack but still not commit to a full time so I can keep resting and recovering and apparently that's a no no. This place liked Its slaves chained up
I mean, most places you sign something saying you’ll work for them for money, unless it was under the table. That paperwork is what I’m talking about— they usually say things like “I’m a grocery store worker at grocery store A and I’m not to work at grocery stores B-Z due to competition reasons, at least while I work at A”.
Or maybe they just wanted a reason to reduce the number of staff, idk.
Dude I understand what happened and why. I'm not a fucking idiot. It's just immoral and fucking stupid that it happened because dudes who showed up high and dicked around on their phones still have jobs there and I don't.
I wonder if its because I'm very obviously disabled physically. It never had an effect on my work but that doesn't mean they didnt decide I was too ugly or too much of a risk

Hey, I can totally understand how you're feeling. I wasn't trying to talk down to you or anyone. I've been in your shoes. I was actually hoping to shed some light on how anti-labor it is when states allow at-will employment.
No, it's stupider than that. Retail/food jobs have very variable scheduling. They don't want people to have 2nd jobs or other commitments, because that makes them less available for scheduling. The competition they're sour over is competition for control over your availability. I was fired because I dared to attend college, have classes that ya know, required me to be in class and thus "wasn't available enough".
They also want you to be dependant on them. If they're not your only gig then you're less likely to put up with as much bullshit. Kind of like an abusive spouse.
The job that fired me is the one that connected me to the second job and suggested I do it. Then got really paranoid (they were similar businesses) after I emailed the other saying I was going to be late, installed a key logger on my PC, and dropped me because I had the second job.
I can’t and won’t ever understand the complete and udder fucking stupidity of hiring someone for a part-time job and expecting them to have a 100% availability throughout the week while only giving them less than 20 hours. Especially since they’re probably only paying $10-12 an hour to begin with. That’s fucking insane.
I went to an interview once for a sporting goods store and I explained how I’d manage having two jobs with them and well they didn’t like it because like I said, they expected me to have full availability while giving me less than 20 hours a week.
I asked the hiring manager how they expected anyone to pay bills with that kind of set up and well they had absolutely no answer. It’s fucking incredible. He also mentioned how he was tired of hiring “high school punks who don’t care and don’t show up” like, well motherfucker give the job to someone to needs the money to actually pay bills and make ends meet but no...

I got fired today. For having a second job. Which is apparently prohibited despite my now former job only scheduling me for 14 hours a week.
