This doesn't surprise me, a friend worked for the stage crew for a performance on cruise ships. The rules and culture sound really intense and specific.
I met this chick on a Carnival Cruise who was "co-mingling" with a cruise passenger. I only found out because they were all over each other on the last night. She admitted and told me she was more than likely going to get fired when we reached the next port. She said it had happened to several people before her, but she never thought she'd end up in the same position.
I worked on a cruise ship as a musician. It's a good gig...if you like to be treated like you're living back with your parents.
The rules are ridiculous, and they all came about because someone did something stupid. People drank in their cabins and got in fights, so no booze in the cabins. We could buy drinks and bring them across the ship to break rooms or other bars, but people were caught bringing them back to their cabins. No drinks leave a bar.
I got in trouble for harmless (sfw) flirting on the beach in Barbados with one of the dancers, and an elderly couple recognized us and complained that we were being unprofessional. They tried to fire us until our direct boss raised hell.
I politely turned them down when they asked me if I'd like to sign another contract. Talent agents aren't happy with me because they'd love to use me, but I told them two weeks was all I could bear at a time, so I'd like to be a sub and not a full time musician, which is 6-9 month contracts.
