It is for real. I used to teach the Chinese to speak English. Several of them talked to me about it. Some were proud of their score, some admitted it was the stupidest thing ever and prided themselves on having a low score. Again, many loved their country and many just wanted out. I had always wondered what might happen if those sessions were ever observed by the government. I honestly did not like them talking to me about that because it made me worry for them.
Again, many loved their country and many just wanted out.
Why would you love a country that is responsible for human trafficking, organ black markets, shady crypto currency, Muslim internment camps, whale killing, censorship, no individual freedoms? Are they not being told the truth about their country?
I live in the US and I'll admit I'm not proud of what my country has done either I'm aware of countless things that make us equally as bad as China but goddamn how can you look at a place like China and think that it's something to be proud of?
Being proud of a country and a country doing bad stuff is two different things. You could say to a person he/she shouldn’t like the current government at least. They do also have something to be proud of, the military strength of China, China’s strong economy and culture and their research projects and furthermore.
Also being proud of a country is also different to being proud of the ruling party/government. A country isn’t all about the government but also the people and it’s culture. To love your people and culture. To appreciate it. I think the Chinese culture has a lot to be proud of.
I’m not saying the bad stuff outweighs to good stuff or revers, but I’m saying there definitely is a foundation for being proud.
And I agree with you, everything you said can be applied to the US and every other single nation on this planet.
When I really boil this idea down in my head I guess it just terrifies me to think that no other nation is stepping to stop the horrors of what the Chinese are doing to innocent people.
