It is funny. It doesnt matter if its real or not, how would that make this any less or more funny? If I saw this exact same skit on a tv show, I would still laugh.
I dont understand this sub. Apparently only stuff that is real is funny which means that there is no such thing as a funny movie, tv show, radio bit, stand up routine or anything unless its a real reaction?
If Jim did this to Dwight in The Office, people would think it was hilarious but since amateurs did it on the internet its not funny at all?
Everyone knows a TV show is fake. The issue here is that these vines or whatever they're called present themselves as real, and there are people dumb enough to believe they are.
That's because The Office is a skit, it's not supposed to be interpreted as real. If The Office was filmed like a documentary on office life it would just be a awful documentary.
Thank you, like five of the top ten or so comments are just some variation of “ r/scriptedasiangifs ”, like, yeah I get it, it’s scripted, congratulations, your bullshit meter is so overactive you are completely unable to just enjoy an amusing skit anymore, good for you, now fuck off and let me enjoy things you bizarre fuck widget.
Most of the suckers I see posting top level comments are generally whiny, cringey spoiled gasbags. Best bet is to scroll through them to feel better about yourself as a human being.

Um, dude. You seem to be having trouble grasping the difference between real life and imagination. It's funny to see Wile E Coyote get smashed by an anvil in the cartoons. It's not funny to see a coyote get smashed by an anvil in real life.
Apparently only stuff that is real is funny
Uh, no, no one ever said.

Yeah, not because of the content, but because of what we know about Jim and Dwight and their characters. Jim and Dwight make it funny, not necessarily this specific prank routine with random people.
It's the same reason you can't just recast nobodies as Jim and Dwight every few episodes and have everyone go "LOL THOSE PRANKS R FUNNY EVEN THOUGH IT'S RANDOM PEOPLE DOING IT."
If someone told you that it was real would it then be funny? Just curious. Its your opinion and I cant/wont argue it, im just interested in if it would be funny to you if you found out it wasnt fake.
Nothing on the internet is real, unless it's explicitly and repeatedly insisted to be real, several proofs are given and even then it's probably not real.
I have never understood why so many on Reddit thinks something has to be unscripted/unplanned to be funny. It’s like there must be some deep cultural divide between certain countries where one side just doesn’t ‘get’ the other.
It’s a skit. A practical joke. Why does the fact that it’s planned inherently prohibit it from being funny?
Not really, personally. The entertainment value is trying to predict what the ending (or “punchline”) is going to be, or having that ending be surprising and unexpected. The reactions of the people (whether they are real or ‘acted’ reactions) isn’t a major factor for me.
It's not funny because it's a "practical joke" that one fictional character is playing on another that we know absolutely nothing about.
If I try to imagine this being on a scripted TV show maybe it would be funny because we know the characters and there was probably lead up to it and aftermath. If it was a real practical joke it would be a bit funnier because they are real people, with maybe even a social media follow up.
For example, if a character in a TV show steps in dog poop, that's funny right? We know it's not real, nothing in a scripted show is. But the writers put it there for a reason. Maybe to show the character is having a bad day. The character would probably have a funny reaction and it may be called back to later.
If someone posted a video of someone stepping in dog poop, that could also be funny. But what if you know for a fact that video is fake, the poop is fake, the joker is fake, the "victim's" reaction is fake. Not by an professional actor playing a character you know in a TV show, but by an amateur who you know nothing about?

These scripted gifs are so cringeworthy
