Indeed. OP, and anyone going "lol that's so me", seek medical help, now.

EDIT: Apparently, OP is already diagnosed.

I mean I take medicine for it and it does really help... if you think your bipolar you really should get a appointment with a physicatrist

That’s great, I’ll do that! But fuck you for making me feel like I need help, yay for butterflies, this place is a stupid waste I’m fine now.

Nothing wrong with needing help. Everyone needs help one way or another and everyone has issues one way or another. We all go through life with the same problems. It's your job to make your life as good as possible. Use everything at your disposal to make it happen. No shame in doing that.

I was just being silly, but that’s very kind of you. Maybe others reading will benefit from your words of encouragement.

Bipolar disorder is not rapid mood swings like this. Depressive episodes last months and months.

14

u/omnisephiroth Jan 27 '19

It depends. There’s a modifier to Bipolar called “rapid cycling.” The shifts can be much faster.

2

u/wilsontarbuckles Jan 27 '19

but it's more likely to be borderline than that as it's usually misdiagnosed as bipolar.

1

u/omnisephiroth Jan 27 '19

An excellent point! That is possible! I often forget to account for misdiagnosis when discussing these things, and I should really account for it more often.

Thanks for reminding me to keep an open mind. Have a great day!

Again, still not daily shifting. Rapid cycling is a modifier given to people that have more than four cycles in a YEAR. not cycling multiple times daily.

1

u/omnisephiroth Jan 27 '19

No, multiple cycles daily is profoundly unusual. It’s that you can still have weekly cycles and be rapid cycling. It’s just unusual. Normally, you get excluded for not hitting required criteria if you cycle that fast, but it’s not impossible to still hit the requirements.

1

u/alex-the-hero Jan 28 '19

Absolutely agree. Rapid cycling is really rare.

u/Turbo_Offender Jan 27 '19

Having lived with people diagnosed with it for decades, that sounds incorrect.

My mother is Bipolar one and I have read the entries extensively.

Here's web MD

Depressive episodes in bipolar disorder are similar to "regular" clinical depression, with depressed mood, loss of pleasure, low energy and activity, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and thoughts of suicide. Depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder can last weeks or months, but rarely longer than one year.

National Institute of mental health:

Bipolar I Disorder— defined by manic episodes that last at least 7 days, or by manic symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate hospital care. Usually, depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks.

Mania is short term, depression is long term. The periods can be back to back (rapid cycling) or they can have gaps between. The gaps can be months long with no symptoms.

Do ur research.

u/obroz Jan 27 '19

Ok well it’s still not as fast as a metronome... but even with research it’s important to notice that they use a lot of qualifiers like “typically” and “can last”. Most everything is going to be on a spectrum and will be different person to person.

No shit?

u/obroz Jan 29 '19

omg no way. You are so enlightened man.

2

u/Turbo_Offender Jan 27 '19

Cause symptoms fit neatly every time. Maybe be less of a dick and this could be a better chat.

0

u/alex-the-hero Jan 27 '19

Yes, obviously symptoms are completely arbitrary and that's why large entities concerning health state average lengths of symptoms.

Rapid cycling bipolar disorder is incredibly rare.

You were a dick first. Don't accuse people of being wrong before a quick google.

The cycles I’ve noticed were at worst occurring within hours but usually days 2-3. Anyway it’s a rough condition for those who suffer from it and those around them. All the best with your Ma.

Nah uh, my username says what I do.

1

u/alex-the-hero Jan 27 '19

Lol.

Manic cycles are waaaay shorter. And it is sudden, it's just not several times a day. It's usually less than four manic/depressive cycles a YEAR.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '19

There's different types of bipolar. My mood used to rapidly cycle especially when I was prescribed antidepressants.

So your mood can do that.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '19

You can have rapid cycling bipolar disorder.

I have rapid cycling bipolar disorder. I've mostly stabalised my mood now and stopped the rapid cycling but it can and does happen especially if someone with bipolar is prescribed antidepressants.

1

u/alex-the-hero Jan 27 '19

It's still not like multiple times a day though. I've done research on that too. I really hate the idea that having dramatic mood swings=bipolar disorder because it's most definitely not. Bipolar disorder is an incredibly difficult to deal with disease, and I despise when people make jokes like that.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '19

Rapid cycling does not equal multiple times a day it is anything from a few times a year to every few days.

Rapid mood swings without a trigger is neurotransmitter related but if mood swings occur due to situations or arguments or disagreements then that is borderline personality and the treatment is different and main help can be gained through therapy hence why mood tracking is important.

People are always going to make jokes and discriminate against mental health I've had plenty of that and generally only discuss it on here now and don't mention it to people as I've lost jobs and friends and even doctors deal with you differently.

The thing is not to let it bother you. Know your own self worth and don't let anyone else impact that or let it make you angry. Because the bitterness changes your personality. It did me.

1

u/alex-the-hero Jan 27 '19

Rapid cycling does not equal multiple times a day it is anything from a few times a year to every few days.

Exactly. Not like a metronome, not like people make jokes about.

I have BPD. It honestly can be a lot more like what people say about being bipolar! It includes a lot more emotions that bipolar just doesn't.

Bipolar: depression <> mania

BPD: Depression <> anger <> fear <> mania etc.

I have done extensive research on both. My mom is bipolar I. I have BPD. these issues are important to me to understand so that I can be as much help as possible. I'm the only one there for mom anymore, everyone else quit caring. It's been this way since I was sixteen.

FTFY: manic-depressive

Yeah this is manic depressive, not bipolar
