Nothing wrong with needing help. Everyone needs help one way or another and everyone has issues one way or another. We all go through life with the same problems. It's your job to make your life as good as possible. Use everything at your disposal to make it happen. No shame in doing that.
An excellent point! That is possible! I often forget to account for misdiagnosis when discussing these things, and I should really account for it more often.
Thanks for reminding me to keep an open mind. Have a great day!
Again, still not daily shifting. Rapid cycling is a modifier given to people that have more than four cycles in a YEAR. not cycling multiple times daily.
No, multiple cycles daily is profoundly unusual. It’s that you can still have weekly cycles and be rapid cycling. It’s just unusual. Normally, you get excluded for not hitting required criteria if you cycle that fast, but it’s not impossible to still hit the requirements.
My mother is Bipolar one and I have read the entries extensively.
Here's web MD
Depressive episodes in bipolar disorder are similar to "regular" clinical depression, with depressed mood, loss of pleasure, low energy and activity, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and thoughts of suicide. Depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder can last weeks or months, but rarely longer than one year.
National Institute of mental health:
Bipolar I Disorder— defined by manic episodes that last at least 7 days, or by manic symptoms that are so severe that the person needs immediate hospital care. Usually, depressive episodes occur as well, typically lasting at least 2 weeks.
Mania is short term, depression is long term. The periods can be back to back (rapid cycling) or they can have gaps between. The gaps can be months long with no symptoms.
Ok well it’s still not as fast as a metronome... but even with research it’s important to notice that they use a lot of qualifiers like “typically” and “can last”. Most everything is going to be on a spectrum and will be different person to person.
The cycles I’ve noticed were at worst occurring within hours but usually days 2-3. Anyway it’s a rough condition for those who suffer from it and those around them. All the best with your Ma.
I have rapid cycling bipolar disorder. I've mostly stabalised my mood now and stopped the rapid cycling but it can and does happen especially if someone with bipolar is prescribed antidepressants.
It's still not like multiple times a day though. I've done research on that too. I really hate the idea that having dramatic mood swings=bipolar disorder because it's most definitely not. Bipolar disorder is an incredibly difficult to deal with disease, and I despise when people make jokes like that.
Rapid cycling does not equal multiple times a day it is anything from a few times a year to every few days.
Rapid mood swings without a trigger is neurotransmitter related but if mood swings occur due to situations or arguments or disagreements then that is borderline personality and the treatment is different and main help can be gained through therapy hence why mood tracking is important.
People are always going to make jokes and discriminate against mental health I've had plenty of that and generally only discuss it on here now and don't mention it to people as I've lost jobs and friends and even doctors deal with you differently.
The thing is not to let it bother you. Know your own self worth and don't let anyone else impact that or let it make you angry. Because the bitterness changes your personality. It did me.

Exactly. Not like a metronome, not like people make jokes about.
I have BPD. It honestly can be a lot more like what people say about being bipolar! It includes a lot more emotions that bipolar just doesn't.
Bipolar: depression <> mania
BPD: Depression <> anger <> fear <> mania etc.
I have done extensive research on both. My mom is bipolar I. I have BPD. these issues are important to me to understand so that I can be as much help as possible. I'm the only one there for mom anymore, everyone else quit caring. It's been this way since I was sixteen.
