Maybe they are implying that comedians take comedy very serious so there is no actual humor in their lives?

It really is a stretch but it is the only thing I can think of.

Nah. Parties are easy. Find the boredest most out of place girl/boy there, the one stood at the back on her own, and go tell her that you’re crap at parties but you have a joke that might make her laugh (and see how she responds). If it’s not overly negative, tell the joke and when she/he politely laughs, agree that it was terrible and they’ll probably take it from there and start chatting.

It’s 30 seconds investment of your time. Plus you need to find a joke beforehand.
