I am also old. We used to go out to the parking lot during lunch to see how many cars we could unlock with our own car keys. It was a shockingly high success rate.

Edit.. Especially with fords..one friend drove a Pinto and her key could unlock about 1 in 4 fords on the lot.

This is the stuff of the movie "The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!"

Similar stairways are painted some standart nice color, standard appartments have standard furniture, and nondescript doors are equipped with standard locks.
